What a terrific player Jason White was; one of the first guys I really loved as I was getting into the sport. I think his style was very American-friendly if that makes sense.

iirc, Hastings had just missed a kick at goal and was furious with himself.

Red card - lifted legs above the horizontal and speared him into the ground without regard for the player's safety, possible mitigation in that Hastings attempted to break his fall with his arm, but he still came down heavily on the neck/shoulder area.

pfft, that's nothing more than a rugby incident, but it's probably safe to say that in the modern game Lowe wouldn't have been on the park for long enough for that collision to take place.
