Official Paris Olympics 2024 thread
How to view in the UK:
Coverage – beginning at 8am daily on BBC1 and running until the 10 o’clock news – will flit from different events, showing the best British hopes and medal action as well as the most engaging events of the day. Coverage will switch to BBC2 when the news is on BBC1 and there will be a nightly highlights show at 10.40pm.
On the BBC iPlayer Olympics Extra will provide a scheduled live stream of events running from 8am until approximately 11pm.
There will also be coverage on BBC Radio 5 Live with live pages featuring clips and interviews on the BBC Sport website and app.
Sadly IOC sold the best coverage to Discovery, so if you have that you're quids in.

Superb career, that first win at Wimbledon was immense.
not the easiest on the eye (I'm talking about his tennis style, not the fact he looks like a horse) but his defence, counterpunching and determination were outstanding.

Yeah I'll be watching as much as I can.
My eldest is at an age now where he'll be right into it too. Although he's annoyed pickleball isn't in it. He plays tennis but has enjoyed recent pickleball games we've played.

An Olympic spying scandal has erupted after Canada were caught flying a drone over the Football Ferns' training session.
A Canadian support staff member who operated the drone has been detained by police after New Zealand management reported the incident in Saint Etienne in central France.
The NZOC has formally lodged the incident with the IOC integrity unit and has asked Canada for a full review.

Charlotte Dujardin (a UK medal prospect in the equestrian dressage just in case anyone was wondering) has been banned for animal mistreatment from an incident 4 years ago. Apparently she was far enthusiastic with a whip on a horse during a coaching session.
A complaint was raised by the Dutch student she was coaching during the incident. I'm not one for conspiracies but the timing seems very odd, to say the least, but she's admitted she was in the wrong.
Not a nice thing, the animal abuse or the fact she had a shot at becoming the most decorated UK female olympian.

Some may say that she was so successful because her horses were so obedient, owing to the fact she used the whip on them so liberally. Not me, but some people.....inactionman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 10:03 am

Blimey. Dujardin was apparently on for a damehood after the Olympics but that's now supposedly off the cards.

Timing or not, she’s whipping the fuck out of that horse. She’s not getting a huge amount of sympathy out of me.inactionman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 10:03 am Charlotte Dujardin (a UK medal prospect in the equestrian dressage just in case anyone was wondering) has been banned for animal mistreatment from an incident 4 years ago. I reckon they should forfeit the game as well as losing the staff. Can't tell me the head coach didn't know. (A bit like sandpapergate)Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:52 pm Bloody cheating Canadians...

Canada’s assistant coach and analyst are being sent home after twice spying on the NZ women’s football team at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The NZOC said the incident “goes against everything that we stand for”.
Canada’s head coach Bev Priestman has stood down from her role for the opening group game versus NZ.
Canada’s assistant women’s football coach and a team analyst are being sent home from the Paris Olympics after twice spying on the New Zealand team with a drone.
The Canadian Olympic Committee said on Wednesday (France time) that Joseph Lombardi - an unaccredited analyst with Canada Soccer - and assistant coach Jasmine Mander are being removed from the Canadian Olympic Team and will be sent home immediately.
The committee also said it has accepted the decision of head coach Bev Priestman to remove herself from coaching the game against the Football Ferns in Saint-Etienne on Friday morning (NZ time).
I drink and I forget things.
She's using a lunge whip. They are too flexible to cause much damage.ScarfaceClaw wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 6:32 pmTiming or not, she’s whipping the fuck out of that horse. Having said that she's swinging it hard and I don't really see the point.
Several TGV lines into Paris have been “sabotaged” - Russia?

looks like a concerted effort anyway
The Paris organisers were generous in their praise for the London Olympics and sought help from the London team in many areas.
Catering was one area they explicitly said they need no help, do there is a bit of schadenfreude about this.
I've only been to France about half a dozen times. I know they take pride in their top class restaurants but my overwhelming impression was that their mid priced offerings were really disappointing.weegie01 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 9:02 amThe Paris organisers were generous in their praise for the London Olympics and sought help from the London team in many areas.

Countries with the most McDonald's restaurants:
United States of America (13,375 restaurants)
China (3,500 restaurants)
Japan (2,900 restaurants)
France (highest in Europe)
It is my 7 year old son's favourite food in the world.

I've been to France a lot and am a bit of a foodie. Decent mid-priced restaurants to be found in most places if you look.Blackmac wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 9:09 amI've only been to France about half a dozen times.
