Re: Stop voting for fucking Tories
So what we are saying is that anyone who actually lived in London thought it was a great time to be there during his tenure. That being a Tory Mayor is easy with a Tory government, but he got voted in under a Labour government, then re elected under a Tory government, in a traditionally Labour city...

Re: Stop voting for fucking Tories
I thought Boris was a good Mayor to be honest, or at least London felt a great place to be when he was in charge. What! With all the cronyism, cash spaffed vanity projects and lack of attention to detail for 8 years? It may well have felt good (for a while) but he certainly sowed the seeds where we...

Re: The Official English Rugby Thread
Yup until that moment, O'Flaherty looked possibly the sharpest winger on the pitch. Twice during the game Quins allowed poor high balls to end up in Sale hands - it's almost as if they have a great plan for when it's a good kick but if it's far too short no one knows what to do. Quite a funny examp...

Re: The Official English Rugby Thread
He's looked pretty slow this season. Did he get an injury? The Sale v Quins game started off looking like another hiding and ended up being a classic. Some superb tries by both sides and credit to Quins for showing a huge amount of heart to scrap their way back into that game. Could have won it at ...

Re: What's going on in Ukraine?
Did anyone else see 'Ukraine: Enemy in the woods' last night. Quite incredible, no holds barred, body cam footage from the front line. A very hard watch. Yes, very surprising what they showed, even with faces blurred out. Was striking that for all the advances in comms and technology, it's not that...

Louis Armstrong I remember the day he died... I'd come in from school and mum had the radio on, it was covered on the news. I distinctly remember her telling me to remind her to tell my father when he got home. Dan's list of blues and jazz artists got me thinking about who most people would recogni...

Elvis, surely? Good call! Elvis arrived and blew everyone's doors off, just absolutely reset the world... and kinda stopped there. Bowie went genre hopping and bending for 50 years. I've been getting back into some older Prince stuff every now and then and he was / is some stupendously talented fre...

Re: What's going on in Ukraine?
In Europe only Germany, France, Italy and Poland, have that type of infrastructure and human capital. The UK will have to rebuild it, or rather Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land will. And while it's nice to be in a common defense community where you can draw upon resources in other members; you're a fuc...

Re: Citizens Army, Whose up for it
NATO obviously spanks Russia in a long war. In a short war? I’m not convinced European armies have the ammunition and equipment to hold their ground. And we don’t know what China might do that may distract the Americans. Our current defence posture seems like a massive gamble Given how much Poland ...

Re: Citizens Army, Whose up for it
We'd need a big army to replace losses incurred during a land war in Europe that had invoked treaty obligations. It's likely that our current army would be BEF'd pretty early on given what we've seen in Ukraine, where both sides have had to reconstitute their armies one and half times since the star...

Re: Not Heineken Cup 23/24
Disappointing to go in this far behind, having played some really positive rugby. There have been some absolutely baffling reffing calls, the non-deliberate knock on being most obvious, but the penalty for not rolling away was a shocker, and letting a maul collapse onto a seriously injured player is...

Dan Cole is just immortal. For sure. Shows how desperate the situation is at TH in Eng. There just aren't any elite EQP options there and we are praying for one of the youngsters like Opoku-Fordjour to come through and take away the front row misery. Apparently the genius plan is to convert him to ...

Re: What's going on in Ukraine?
It does look like 2024 will be the hardest year yet for Ukraine. Logistics of keeping the war going, the need to rotate men who've been constantly fighting which means recruiting those who haven't volunteered. I can't see them attempting another offensive this year, could easily be a year of Ukrain...

Excellent second half for Saints. Can't remember last time they topped the table? Langdon has been an excellent signing. Could see him in the frame rfor an England squad call up. Good phase play from Saints to get their second try. Just Ford's drop goal separating the two teams with 15 to play. Having heard an awful lot of hype about Opoku-Fordjour all I've really seen him do so far in the game is concede a couple of scrum penalties. Not his best game, mind, Northampton &qu...

Again, interpretation. If you know exactly what's going on in that opening sequence, fair play. All that's certain is Mother wakes up and wakes the crew up. Alternative is plausible as I said but hugely risky for something major going wrong. And I still don't have an answer for Ash helping them kil...

This would be the absolute worst thing that could happen to rugby in terms of broadcasting. If we also discount the other terrestrial broadcasters picking up the slack then yes, but losing the BBC is not all bad. If the Beeb can't afford it I'd be surprised if other terrestrial broadcasters could, ...
