Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread
Actually if he's on the bench behind players like Chamberlain and Cronje....how the mighty have fallen!! Anyone seen Eggman? I suspect he'll be on the bench for the Challenge Cup Final, so he's probably just backup. It would probably be pointless giving him gametime if there aren't any injur...

Yes, and also a nod towards transformation.
I like the painting. It's always going to attract it's critics, but it's very striking and different and speaks to how the role of the monarchy continues to evolve.

Re: RWC 2027 Qualifying
Winner of that game goes into the final qualifier though, with the loser of the South America / Pacific playoff, the 5th place team from Rugby Europe Championship and the 3rd place team from the sudamerica championship. Ah. Fuck it then, what's the point, they won't stand a chance. If they can't be...

Re: RWC 2027 Qualifying
A lot will depend on the location of the play-offs. I'd back them at home to beat the likes of Korea or Hong Kong, but they'd struggle away. Also because most players have full time jobs.
But still an interesting development, and easier than the previous route.

No change for Africa then. It's a shame, but not like anybody beyond Namibia has been knocking on the door.
It's up to the likes of Zimbabwe and Kenya to push Namibia for that spot. Can't see any of the teams surviving a playoff.

Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread
I guess I am just being overly pessimistic, but I just have not seen anything consistently from them this year to suggest they have it in them to travel to London and beat Gloucester. I think you're being quite realistic. They're both having horror seasons, but the travel factor may be too much for...

Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread
Didn't watch the game, but was pretty disappointed to see the result. Aai Sharkies, what the hell man. I simply can't see them winning the Challenge Cup this year. There's something missing, this team should be winning most games, not bloody lose them. Add to that the travel factor and playing in t...

Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread
Disastrous game for the $harks. Our URC games are basically moot at this point in the season, I really wish we could have saved some of our key players for the Challenge Cup game. Not sure what has happened to Koch, Eben and Am but when it rains it pours. Throw a red card into that mix too. It was q...

I wonder if Tyrone Green is on Rassie's radar.
Arguably one of the best fullbacks in Europe.
One year left before he's English qualified.

Re: Official United Rugby Championship thread
With games against Benneton, Cardiff and Bulls (all at home) left, the best they can hope for would be to overtake Cardiff and finish 12th.
Better than last, I guess
Will be interesting to see how our Boks are managed in prep for the Challenge Cup Final. Don't want them rusty.

Yep. I lived around the corner for a few years, was a season ticket holder too. Met Andre Vos a couple of times.
They play an amazing style of rugby, such a joy to watch. Not if you're a fan of defence though

South African Coaches Thread
I remember a few years ago the lack of quality coaches used to be such an issue. Now they are all over the world and in high demand. I thought it prudent to have a thread tracking their successes, failures and movements. ABROAD Jacques Nienaber (Leinster) - 2nd in URC, just made the Champions Cup fi...

Re: 2024 Springbokke
The biggest mistake the WP Rugby and the Stormers did was not aligning those 2 brands. Unlike every other team that combined their Super Rugby and Currie Cup brands (Lions, Cheetahs, Sharks, Bulls), for some reason the Stormers/WP and Kings/Spears/EP Jumbos decided not to and it really was to their...

That yellow killed the game.
Very silly from Marler at the end. A lineout and drive from Quins in the last few minutes could have made it interesting. Mind you, our lineouts were dreadful.

I have only noticed Etzebeth since he reached his career peak of playing for the Sharks. Doesn't play as often as Johann Muller. Not as good in the lineout as Albert van den Berg. Not as versatile as Willem Alberts. Not as hard as Johan Ackermann. Not as funny as Mark Andrews. Verdict: Average. A p...

I think Eben is the best lock we've ever produced.
I could go on about what he brings to the team, but in fact it's easier to notice what a poorer side we are when he's not playing.

Re: 2024 Springbokke
Sasha Feinberg-Mngomezulu seems the most likely candidate at this stage. But he really needs to be starting a lot more games at 10, and the Stormers have too much depth in the backline. He may need to consider a tactical move to another team in order to get this. It will also be interesting to see h...
