Re: Quitting the bottle

I'm almost 7 months into sobriety (putting aside a couple of lapses) and feel better physically - sleeping better. Mentally somewhat of a dry drunk and trying to work through some issues. I don't hear the siren call of the booze though and find I can drink 0% beer (when I have to i.e. at the pub or ...

Re: Quitting the bottle

Belated happy new year & all the best for 2023 to you all After falling off the wagon late Nov/early Dec I somehow got to the stage where I don't miss the booze at all, and the physical health benefits are starting to show. In terms of mental health it's a lot more challenging for me. Facing up ...

Re: Quitting the bottle

Why not just say you are off the grog for the foreseeable future, its the truth, and i find that is always the best approach, don;t tie yourself up in knots over it, there is no shame in my view. Agreed. Not drinking these days has no stigma attached that I've seen. In fact we have praised those in...

Re: Quitting the bottle

Fell of the wagon the other day (last Thursday) a couple of lagers. Didn't enjoy as much as I thought. Didnlt relax me as much as I hoped. Felt a bit seedy the next day but not too bad. All in all a reminder that booze is not the answer to my struggles. Has anyone tried cold showers instead of cold...

Re: Quitting the bottle

Good call, mate, and I wonder what triggered you to go alcohol-free. How bad are the demons and what have you put in place to help you resist their siren call? Thanks Kiwias. The main reason is health - being an older parent I want to see my kids grow up and be active/positive in their life. Blood ...

Re: Quitting the bottle

Thanks again Kiwias My wife is not aware of the extent of my (sly) drinking (she never drinks) but is aware I have stopped and supportive. It can be confronting facing up to my shortcomings rather than drinking them away, while trying to find the right balance between self-acceptance & self-imp...

Re: Crusaders v Hurricanes : MATCH THREAD : Sat 25th Jul

Jordan vs Barret hopefully (razor put will at 15 not havili), to decide the next all black fullback I'm backing Will Jordan for long-term AB fullback, with Jordy as a useful bench player. Not to be too simplistic, but all Barretts are excellent bench players and mediocre starters. BB - hold my beer

Re: EV vs Hybrid vs Petrol

Battery degradation doesn't seem to be an issue that I've seen. We've got a Renault Zoe, so pay monthly for the batteries, if they fall below a certain standard, they're replaced for free. Think 100km is definitely doable for many of the newer models, and if there's free charging stations at work, ...

Re: EV vs Hybrid vs Petrol

The very first Leafs had batteries that weren't quite as good as the ones that came even a year after, so steer clear of them unless it's a bumbling about town car you're looking for. Be aware that Leafs also charge off Chademo plugs and the standard rapid chargers are going to be CCS, and the ones...

Re: EV vs Hybrid vs Petrol

My sister and BiL live in West Melton and commute into the Christchurch CBD daily, so theirs is a fairly similar scenario to yours... They bought a second hand Leaf. They’ve had to replace the charging unit which was quite pricey as I remember but that’s been it, reliability wise. Performance is fi...

Re: Chiefs v Canes : Match thread

Bit disappointed to read of Sam Cane joining Gatland in the post match whining.

Those that live in glasshouses etc after getting away with his shoulder charge

Great player but not the leadership style I like to see in my All Blacks team.

EV vs Hybrid vs Petrol

Hi all Am seriously thinking of getting a Nissan Leaf. I need to commute up to 100km round trip daily for work mostly open road 2/3 days per week Can also choose to drive 50 km round trip & take a free shuttle bus the rest of the way but they do have free charging stations at work) Bit concerned...
