I don't know what those "forces outside rugby" are.
It was the UK government.ACE wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 5:41 pm Looks like the SA teams have been kicked out of Pro14

Apparently it's not cancelled but they are looking at other alternatives:

SA Rugbymag
All the matches in the first round will be available live on SuperSport, as well as the other PRO14 network of broadcasters, Premier Sports, eir Sport and DAZN, with S4C and TG4 showing live free-to-air matches, deferred coverage and highlights throughout the Rainbow Cup.
Confirmation of the planned matches for rounds four to six will follow once PRO14 Rugby has received all necessary approvals and permissions from the relevant governments and health authorities for the South African teams to travel.
I think it's safe to say we are. It's just the travel and logistics issues they're trying to iron out, after which the rest of the fixtures will be announced.
Just to engage with fans from another country will be great. Us saffers are getting on each other's nerves.

At least the tournament will start with a bang. Stormers and Sharks haven't played many times. Sharks had a lot of excuses.
Will start off with a bang if The Chosen One runs over Borsch for the opening try.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 4:05 pm At least the tournament will start with a bang. Stormers and Sharks haven't played many times. Sharks had a lot of excuses.
This is going to be a totally pointless exercise.
It is a meaningless trophy tacked onto the end of a strange season.
I doubt any of the bigger teams (SA sides, Leinster, Munster) will really give a toss if they win this.
By the sounds of if even the teams far less likely to win it like Edinburgh are talking about using kids. They've held back kids from the u20 6N, presumably to play in this.

The youngsters may play them in the Lions squad coming to South Africa while the older players can rest.
We didn't need to include the SA side and have a convoluted tournament to do so.Jock42 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 6:08 pmI'm glad some youngsters are getting a run tbh.Big D wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:57 pm This is going to be a totally pointless exercise.

It's a filler until the 2021-2022 Pro 16 season kicks off. It makes sense to get our players used to conditions and the travel that will be involved. I'd be surprised if any of the NH teams put full-strength teams out, but I think SA fans are looking forward to some of the games.

What an absolute shitshow.
As usual good work Saffers.
The disgraceful exit from the Rugby Championship seems to be working out well for you.
Karma.

Hahahahaha...hahah
Sorry we don't engage or allow ourselves to be trolled by supporters of a seventh placed team on the world rankings. When your team has won three world cups and reached number one on the rankings we may talk as equals. Until then it's onto ignore you go.

New laws for Rainbow Cup
LAW VARIATION TRIALS EXPLAINED
Replacement for Red Card player after 20 minutes
For red cards, the offending player will be removed from the field for 20 minutes. After this time the team can replace this player with one of their nominated substitutes. The player who is given the red card will not be able to return to the pitch.
Just like the awarding of a yellow card, the 20 minutes will be measured in ‘game time’ meaning that the clock will not run during stoppages in play. The Red Card Replacement law will also apply to players who receive two yellow cards (which results in an automatic red).
Players who have been substituted for tactical reasons may be used to replace a player who has received a red card. The usual replacement laws continue to apply in that a replaced player may return for an injured front rower, injury due to foul play, HIA or blood.
CAPTAIN’S CHALLENGE
The Captain’s Challenge is aimed at enhancing the accuracy of decisions already under the remit of the match officials. Each team is allowed one captain’s challenge in the match. These can be used for try-scoring and foul play incidents, or to challenge any refereeing decision in the last five minutes of a match.
The challenge will be referred to the TMO who will review the footage with the match referee making the final decision. If a challenge is successful, then the team keeps their challenge but if it is unsuccessful then the team loses the challenge.
Challenges can only be made up to 20 seconds after the referee has blown his whistle for a stoppage in play and only incidents from the last passage of play can be challenged.
Prior to the 75-minute mark, the Captain’s Challenge can only be used to check for an infringement in the lead up to a try or to review foul play.
The Captain’s Challenge will be applied more broadly from the 75-minute mark in any match at which point the captain, provided they have not already lost their Challenge, can use it to check any whistled decision regardless of whether a try has been scored. Injury time is included in the post 75-minute period.
1. TMO’s will be able to go back to the last stoppage in play, regardless of how many phases have been played
1. Foul play challenges can be made after any stoppage in play if the captain believes foul play has been missed by the match officials
2. Captains must reference ‘specific’ incidents or infringements
3. Footage must be ‘clear and obvious’ for a challenge to be upheld
4. Captains cannot refer a scrum or lineout penalty, where the referee’s decision will be final
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no extra challenge available after 75 minutes. Teams receive one challenge per match and will only retain it if they are successful in a previous challenge.
WHAT CANNOT BE CHALLENGED
1. A restart in play has happened including a quick tap or quick throw in has been taken, so the team has chosen to play quickly
2. Non-decisions – where a referee does not blow their whistle for a decision and play continues (unless there is foul play)
3. Set-piece decisions cannot be challenged because they are technical decisions that could provide multiple outcomes based on the interpretations of players and referees
Goal-line drop-out
For held-up over the line, knock-ons that occur in goal or when the ball is grounded by a defending player in the in-goal area after a kick through, the defending team will take a drop-out from anywhere on the goal line.
The drop-out must be taken on or behind the defending team’s goal line and it must occur without delay. The ball must cut across the goal line and travel 5 metres. If this does not occur a sanction will apply, and the non-kicking team may request the kick to be retaken or receive a 5m scrum in line with where the kick was taken.
For the avoidance of doubt, a missed penalty kick at goal or a missed drop-goal attempt will still result in a 22m drop-out for the defending team.

Yep.
t is understood that a failure to gain permission from the UK and Ireland governments for the visit of the South Africans is the stumbling block that at this point cannot be hurdled.
Some sources are saying it will go ahead without the SA sides.
It's all a mess tbh.
The only games I'd be interested in if this is a case is if all the Pro 14 sides put out U20s or U23 teams
edit, if the SA sides are playing derbies I'd be interested in watching their age group games too.

Surprise, surprise.
First this abortion of a tournament will go. Then it will be the Lions tour. Swiftly followed by another Bok withdrawal from the Rugby Championship.
Hopefully the Springoffs will play again before the 2023 RWC.
Going on SA record that is no sure bet either. Could be time to roll up the tents completely.
Abortion of a country.

Oh must be my mistake.
I hadn't realised the South African Government Covid response has been world leading. Also wasn't aware that since the 2019 RWC, rugby in SA has been managed expertly and efficiently.
Must be my ignorance.
Please carry on.
