I haven't posted on there in, like, 18 months after probably Jake banned me for supposed homophobia over a tongue-in-cheek comment on the 'Britain's most prolific rapist thread'.
And I'm not homophobic, alright. Look at my CD collection; you'll find Queen, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys... they're all bummers.

The fact the thread here was a largely civilised discussion of what's going on, and didn't reach 20+ pages, is an excellent advert for NPR.SaintK wrote: Wed May 19, 2021 3:39 pmI foolishly had a quick look at that threadInsane_Homer wrote: Wed May 19, 2021 2:23 pm fuck me, popped in to do my Earl GolfCup comp and decided to take a look at the what is happening in Jerusalem? thread.
All the usual suspects. Don't miss it a jot.
"You bigot, "you racist", "you vile nazi scum", "you're a liar and ignorant idiot" etc, etc, etc ad infinitum!

His choice.
As long as he is not against and stops others from having pointy bits stuck in them, he’s welcome.

If we could persuade a few of the better ones there to cross over here, it would push NPR's traffic up which would improve discussions.

I took it to mean 123 cantankerous old men hadn't decided which sock puppet account to log in with.
I'm sure half of the threads were one person responding to themselves.

There was always a plethora of nut jobs on there, but it seems to have distilled down to a mother lode of right wing loons versus their nemesis lefties. I watch from afar now as its a complete fruit loop zoo. Car crash TV yes, but alll the same fascinating viewing. Bimbo, Mick, Taffcat, DAC, Mightyreds v every other somewhat sane individual ... classic

Sure, a bit more will be nice, as long as they aren’t the ones listed above, but quantity doesn’t mean quality.Woddy wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 12:35 pmSometimes, to appreciate the oasis you need to go back into the desert for a bit.Marylandolorian wrote: Wed May 19, 2021 5:37 pm Last time was last July in the top14 thread to put NPR IP address. Made the mistake of trying to read the Bulldog memorial thread this morning from my phone (browser with no ad-blocker).
Dominated with ads and full page popups to the point of after 2 tries couldn't read the page and quit. fcking morons.

Don't shoot the messenger here but I just scrolled through all 33 pages of threads on this forum and virtually the only ones that made it past 2 pages were.... ones about PR.

On the front page of threads alone there's 33 threads of 2 pages+ that aren't anything to do with PR. Discussion of PR on here these days is relegated to one or two threads, unless oddballs come and bump them from months ago.Dismal Pillock wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 8:35 am Don't shoot the messenger here but I just scrolled through all 33 pages of threads on this forum and virtually the only ones that made it past 2 pages were.... ones about PR.

I popped my head in because of this thread and the weirdos one, caved and dropped a couple of posts on their Top 10 movies thread because someone mentioned Nightcrawler and I will never pass on an opportunity to sing that film's praises. Back to radio silence for the next 11 months or whatever it was before this wobble I would imagine.

I'd be in favour of auto-locking threads when they haven't had a reply for a period - at most a month, maybe as little as a week. It's so irritating to read a page or two and then realise you're reading a discussion that happened a year ago. Really bad etiquette to bump old threads.
Threads don't cost anything, if you want to continue a discussion start a new thread with a similar title and link to the old thread.

Disagree with all of this. One of the great things about the foriisphere (as opposed to twitter) is you can just find an old thread and pick up where someone left off years ago and continue and contribute to conversations you're interested in.Mahoney wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:17 am I'd be in favour of auto-locking threads when they haven't had a reply for a period - at most a month, maybe as little as a week. Agree. It's a delight to see an old thread. Keeps the front page turning over and makes for more variety. I bet Mahoney's place makes Marie Kondo look like a hoarder.Dismal Pillock wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:29 amDisagree with all of this. Depends on the thread. Sometimes an issue goes quiet but has a direct continuation a bit down the track and it can be valid to pop the update with all the original discussion so people can see the back ground. Alternatively, I just resurrected the film thread because I don't see the point in having multiples of that.Mahoney wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:17 am I'd be in favour of auto-locking threads when they haven't had a reply for a period - at most a month, maybe as little as a week.
