I skimmed the last episode. It got a bit silly, and would say it’s not worth the hassle.Margin__Walker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 6:17 am These dramas all take a bit of artistic license, but Vigil was off the charts for me.

The best new and returning TV series thread

Finally got around to Ozark and working through season 1. Enjoyable enough but there's not a lot of sympathetic characters in the roster.
Witcher renewed for season 3
Babylon 5 being remade, bad news it's CW channel.
TVLine has learned that the reboot Straczynski is developing for The CW follows John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space. Babylon 5 serves as a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. Sheridan arrival triggers “a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined,” when an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting him and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last, best hope for the survival of the human race.

Oh dear, if anyone's capable of making something so bad it tarnishes the legacy of the original it's the CW.BnM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 7:05 pm Witcher renewed for season 3

I like the look of that but subtitles after a 12 hour shift is not going to happen tonight
So good it even has its own thread.

I finished it last night, and really enjoyed it. Subtitled. Couldn't watch a dubbed version.
Ok, thanks will persevere a bit longer.Gumboot wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 10:48 pmSo good it even has its own thread.

Read that book, maybe too recently to fully enjoy the show as it loses a bit when you know what's going to happen
Now I’m trying to think of the other foreign language series I ditched because of the voice overs.
Based on a book I think, (possibly French) black main character. Action/drama. Single word title which might have been the characters surname.

Spoiler
Show
Think his kid had just been kidnapped at the seaside at the end of the season, taken in a car.

apart from Michael O'Hare, the casting was so good in the original - can't imagine new casting couldn't help but be unfavourable.
As Kosh would say: A stroke of the brush does not guarantee art from the bristles.

Watched 2 episodes, and the best way I can look at it is as a "Ripping Yarn" and not worry about plausibility, realism etc. Main thing that I can't stop thinking is "there's Morse / Ygritte / Stannis / Podric"Grandpa wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 8:57 amIt's not good when you start wanting the baddies to win...Ymx wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 8:54 amI skimmed the last episode. I suspect that for me living in a submarine would be a very special and unique hell so seeing it vicariously is enlightening
Yes.. Game of Thrones featured heavily... I was hoping Jon Snow would appear to finish them all off...tabascoboy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 2:22 pmWatched 2 episodes, and the best way I can look at it is as a "Ripping Yarn" and not worry about plausibility, realism etc. Main thing that I can't stop thinking is "there's Morse / Ygritte / Stannis / Podric"

Watching some drama based on real life events I find more engaging... eg Stephen, based on the Stephen Lawrence murder and Manhunt based on a couple of serial killers/rapists in London... much more interesting...
Definitely. I’m done with twists and turns and final episodes when I realise that I’ve completely lost whatever idea I had of the plot. The real life ones that you’ve mentioned are far better. IMO anyway.Grandpa wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:07 pmYes.. Game of Thrones featured heavily... Have you watched Don't Fcuk with Cats on Netflix? Also based on a real life killer... another creepy murderer...GogLais wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:53 pmDefinitely. This looks interesting. Anybody read the books in German or translation?

Think you meant "without"
I'd like to have seen something similar to what happened in Homeland...
Because of Gumboot I watched it... it's highly addictive...Ymx wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 10:59 pmOk, thanks will persevere a bit longer.Gumboot wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 10:48 pmSo good it even has its own thread.

Season 4 of The Sinner with Bill Pullman out. I've enjoyed the first 3 seasons. Especially the first season with Jessica Biel who I admire enormously as an err ... actress. Or female actor I think they're now called.
Yeah it was good did you watch Manhunt with Martin Clunes? It was excellent.Grandpa wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:07 pmYes.. Game of Thrones featured heavily... Midnight Mass, like Flanagan's other shows, spends waaaaaay too long on the drama and nowhere near enough on horror for me. Could've clipped a couple of episodes off this no problem.
As it is the pacing feels really off, it's really slow for most of the running and then BAM the last episode and a half are full on horror territory with very little to show how we got there. Plenty of potential to have seeded previous episodes with creepy moments or even extended the season and have the insidious corruption of the town take place at a leisurely pace, giving more opportunity to show fear and paranoia building in the community.

The funny thing is how much more I enjoy her acting; when she has her back to the camera.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 5:11 pm Season 4 of The Sinner with Bill Pullman out. It's just shows how talented she is !
