Pretty much.

He's always had flashes of brilliance in pockets of his career.
It's more an indictment of his coaches that so few of them were able to create an environment where he could thrive.

I don't think that is the spirit of this thread at all. It's an appreciation of his improvement from when he was first made Bok captain to now. Even during the RWC fans (myself included) were questioning his form. But the last 6 months his improvement has been monumental.

Kolisi just had so much more to deal with than any Bok captain has had. For a start, an African breadwinner is responsible for much more than his immediate nuclear family. Siya is a Xhosa man from the Eastern Cape, the burden of responsibility and the expectation that he will feel to his extended family will be huge. Add to that the expectations adoration and fascination of millions of Saffers furiously facebooking, instagramming, tiktokking and twittering about him and his family.

Its a wonder he hasn't shaved his head and gone full Britney Spears. So he spent a few years boozing a bit too much and visiting strip club. Who hasn't? I'm a huge fan of his and always felt his value to South African rugby was worth it despite his sometimes average contribution on the field. I have a handyman called Siya who does my painting etc. He is an Eastern Cape guy who lives in Khayelitsha. He coaches a kids cricket team and is absolutely mad about rugby and cricket. He reckons Makhaya Ntini and Siya Kolisi are the most important thing to have happened to sport in that region. Siya Kolisi and Bongi Mbonambi delivered helmets, pads, bats, pads and balls to his little cricket club and have arranged for a pitch to be laid.

There are many days when I wake up in South Africa feeling depressed and shit about life. Then I think about how it must feel to wake up with no electricity, no prospects, gangsters and criminals surrounding you. Its wonderful to see Mapimpi and Kolisi able to escape all of that. I hope that happens for a lot more people.

The few times we had reasonable ball in hand we looked dangerous, and if Finn had his kicking boots on there would have been a bit more pressure on in the last quarter, but we're in a better place than we've been for a long time.

This! Kolisi is a real player, always has been. However he is an even better leader and role model. You guys are lucky to have him and you won't know how lucky until he retires.

I also think that's why certain players that fans are screaming for selection haven't made it in yet. Rassie likes a certain type of player. It's probably the reason why our discipline has improved so much too.

It's sorta half right... I don't think the players are in on it though... but exactly right that since 2015 All Black rugby has stood still. They took their stable forward platform for granted under McCaw. Hansen then somehow lost the plot... and Foster was in on it...

The Crusaders don't play like the All Blacks, neither did the Blues when winning the Trans Tasman Competition earlier this year... and Foster is either too stubborn or unable to change what has become engrained... though you'd hope Plumtree might have influence, or is he stuck in the past too?

If Foster doesn't change.... and it seems unlikely seeing that the All Blacks have lost to Ireland, England, SA, Argentina and Australia in recent seasons... with still no change in sight (other than employing their own version of the rush defence, which I guess we should be grateful for small mercies) then I guess he will stubbornly persist until we get knocked out of the World Cup again before the final... only then might we see a proper re-boot and a modern thinking coach brought in....

The ABs currently have no on-field leadership and a whole heap of players with a lot of talent who might just need to be kept on a short leash / are quite dumb / are potential trouble for their own team with very few wise heads
