The NICD said 84% of the cases accounted for yesterday (Monday) came from the Gauteng province, followed by the Western Cape which accounted for 5% of cases.
KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 3% of cases while Mpumalanga and the North West each accounted for 2% of cases respectively.
The Free State and Limpopo each accounted for 1% of the cases while the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces accounted for less than 1% of the new cases reported yesterday (Monday).

Anybody got the skinny on when the over 50's can get boosters? I had mine around September but I'm hearing it should be 6 months after shot 2.

I picked my daughter up from University in Stellies yesterday. I got chatting to one of the cleaners at her res. She told me that her entire church had taken a pledge not to get vaccinated. The pastor had told them that there is a sinful substance in it that will prevent them from getting into heaven. About 500 people.

Holy shit this is rising fast! Month end and pay day. Crowds and queues everywhere at the moment. We're in for a rocky December. Really hope this Omicron is symptomatically mild.

11 535 new infections yesterday. The peak of the July wave was 22000 per day and it took 10 weeks from the trough to get there. It looks like we'll reach that figure in less than 4 weeks. Deaths and hospitalisations should start to climb soon. I'm praying its milder. That would be an absolute Christmas miracle.
It just goes to show how successful those lockdown measure were at slowing down the rate of infection. I reckon we'll see some new measures kick in this week. Especially around indoor mass gatherings like church and nightclubs.

Nah, they are well in excess of 150k a day now, with about 60k a day in Gauteng
The government has been talking about doing this for months but stil haven't done anything.OomStruisbaai wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:08 am Hope they put compulsory vaccine measurements in place.

They know they are unpopular due to corruption and incompetence so they are scared to introduce any mandates that might rile up the masses

Our gov has been so unimaginative and lackadaisical on the vaccine front. All the infrastructure and supply side set up but complete apathy in driving and motivating the masses. There's no silver bullet to convince everyone to get the shot. But every individual has a weakness or need that can be leveraged.assfly wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:10 am Last week they announced that starting soon, you will need a vaccine certificate to access any government building. The uptake in vaccinations started the next day!
I find it incredible for instance that we haven't restricted domestic air travel to vaccinated passengers only.

Yep and our Malls should do the same. No vaccinate, no entry. It's the only way.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:42 amOur gov has been so unimaginative and lackadaisical on the vaccine front. They need to target trains and taxis.

Those are tricky from a practical standpoint. Air travel is low hanging fruit. You need to present ID's, there are security checkpoints. It may be a small percentage of the population but I feel it would make quite a difference to say a vaccine hesitant family if one of them was jabbed with no ill effects. A multiplier effect in other words.assfly wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:48 amAir travel is a tiny demographic for South Africa.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:42 am Our gov has been so unimaginative and lackadaisical on the vaccine front. The R100 Vooma voucher for over 60s seems to be working well. They should open that up to the entire population. It may seem a pittance but an extra R500 for a family of 5 for Christmas this year would be a fair motivation.
My son went yesterday. Noone there, they even filled in the forms themselves because they were so bored.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 6:42 amOur gov has been so unimaginative and lackadaisical on the vaccine front. Had this Omicron virus on the news last night. Look like a very mild version and mostly affecting the younger ages. This is actually good news meaning that you don't get that sick, no pressure on hospitals and the body build its own antibodies.

Can't read too much into one day's figures but they are pretty strange.
Our neighbours have the covid at the moment, the wife has mild cold like symptoms (but no blocked nose), the rest are asymptomatic. Both husband and wife vaccinated, kids too young.

Western Cape stats
He added that as of 7 December:
In the 60+ age cohort, 66% are fully vaccinated, and 5% are partially vaccinated. This means that 71% of all people over 60 have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
In the 50 to 59 age cohort, 57% are fully vaccinated, and 5% are partially vaccinated. This means that 62% of all people aged 50 to 59 have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
When breaking down the data for all those people over 50 who are fully vaccinated, it is apparent that the Overberg district is doing the best, followed by the Garden Route.
The Central Karoo is lagging all other districts by some margin.
The breakdown is as follows:
Overberg: 75.3%
Garden Route: 66.5%
Cape Winelands: 59.4%
West Coast: 59.1%
City of Cape Town: 58.5%
Central Karoo: 44.3%
