I noticed that Leatherbarrow wasn’t in the team for Friday. Disappointing as I was looking forward to seeing him play.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 6:50 pm For anyone who watched the U20s, Leatherbarrow (the very impressive 8) has been recalled to Exeter with a view to being in their prem squad at the weekend.
Harrison is lined up to start at hooker so one of the Edinburgh hookers (presumably Cherry) will be released back, otherwise they will have only 1 senior hooker for the Leinster game.

Reckon it'll be Tuipolotu.S/Lt_Phillips wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:52 amThat would be awesome (I may be being guilty of hyping the guy up though, though he is a classy player)
I'm a huge fan of Redpath but his appearances for Bath he's looked like someone who hasn't played rugby for a year and isn't completely sure of his body and his fitness isn't there. It's a huge risk to play him. If we want a classy centre dominating the premiership it's Rory Hutchinson.

Yeah, I agree, big risk. Tuipolotu more likely to start.I like neeps wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 12:00 pmReckon it'll be Tuipolotu.S/Lt_Phillips wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:52 amThat would be awesome (I may be being guilty of hyping the guy up though, though he is a classy player)

Bugger. I was off work for 11 days. I’m negative now, but the cough it started with is worse than it was when I was off!

I had it in December, barely had a cough to begin with, the weeks after I'd tested negative I had a hellish cough.
So I squares up, casual like.
I'd forgotten about Hutch tbf. Would happily see him start too. I'll not be disgruntled to see Tuipolotu start but there are better centres.I like neeps wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 12:00 pmReckon it'll be Tuipolotu.S/Lt_Phillips wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:52 amThat would be awesome (I may be being guilty of hyping the guy up though, though he is a classy player)

Tuipolotu starts, Redpath on the bench. Hopefully he'll get his second cap and keep his 100% win rate!
Skinner starts at 6, Bradbury on the bench again. Darge on the bench too.
Front rows swapped round. Sounds like Townsend wants to contain the Welsh scrum initially then have more a mobile pack unleash havoc later on.

That’s how I read it. I can see the argument. Wales are bound to come flying out of the starting blocks, so play a containment game until they run out of steam a bit.S/Lt_Phillips wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 12:41 pm Tuipolotu starts, Redpath on the bench. Happy with that idea. Not entirely convinced with Tupilotu as starting 12, but he probably isn’t a big step down from Johnson on current form. I would dearly love to see Hutchinson get a chance though.

Hope you are feeling OK.
Achh that’s shite for us and Ritchie, he was looking and being noticed elsewhere as knocking on world class
Still not convinced by Tuipulotu but they’ve had him on the squad for a bit now so I guess we have to trust the selection
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Well, it’s away to Leinster, so we’d have been losing with a full team out anyway

It occurred to me that you could actually put together a serious team using only players who can’t get into the Scotland 23 right now (some can’t even make the squad!)

Better than a number of teams we've put out in the last twenty years.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:41 pm It occurred to me that you could actually put together a serious team using only players who can’t get into the Scotland 23 right now (some can’t even make the squad!)

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
That’s what I thought. If we fielded that side in the AIs, you’d probably think ‘bit experimental’ but you wouldn’t actually be horrified, or think it spelled certain doom.Biffer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:50 pmBetter than a number of teams we've put out in the last twenty years.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:41 pm It occurred to me that you could actually put together a serious team using only players who can’t get into the Scotland 23 right now (some can’t even make the squad!)

Shit, I had resigned myself to him not being int he Scotland squad but at least seeing him in an Edinburgh shirt for the business end of the club season. It's an area of strength in depth for us, but Ritchie is an exceptional player.
Hopefully he'll come back even stronger next season.
Just for fun, I wondered what our 3rd team might look like. Ruled out anyone I named in the 2nd team (including on the bench). Also ruled out anyone who seems to have retired, openly or effectively (Wilson, Toolis, Grigg, Taylor) and anyone who has fallen off the radar entirely (Luke Hamilton, SHC). Still limited the selection to players who have been in or around the squad in recent times, save a couple of bench choices who I’m sure have been in the mix.
It’s doable if you bring back a few old stagers. If you don’t like Scott at 13, he could be swapped out for McDowall. Not sure I’d want to watch this team, but it was always going to be a barrel-scraping exercise!

Kerr could probably do a job for us. Hodgson and Sykes will win many full caps in the next few years. I'd put Muncaster in the back row, he is a beast. Carmichael had to retire last year due to ongoing concussion problems, unfortunately.
Currie at 13 for Edinburgh looks like a real prospect

Berghan is starting for Glasgow this weekend. Rae plays weekly at Bath. Berghy is more than serviceable. Fagerson, Berghan and Nel is a good three. We desperately need Walker to come through.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:42 amYr Alban wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:26 am Just for fun, I wondered what our 3rd team might look like. I wonder the plan at Edinburgh actually. Nel probably has a year or two left. Then it's De Bruin - unconvincing. Don't tell me Atalifo and Williams are expected to step up. What a mess Cockers made of it in the end. Now is exactly when McCallum should have been week in week out starter.

Dan Gamble is the next cab off the rank from the Edinburgh academy and is well regarded. He is around 20/21 now I think, so realistically it might be a couple of years until he is regularly starting for Edinburgh, let alone Scotland. Zander's rise was extremely unusual in terms of his breakthrough age.I like neeps wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:45 amBerghan is starting for Glasgow this weekend. Rae plays weekly at Bath. There's also Mak Wilson who is slightly older (21/22) and at Quins. I think he has benched for them once or twice now. I'm sure I heard he was back up playing in the Super6 last year, but perhaps I'm misremembering.
Murphy Walker was a loosie I think at U20 - has he converted to tighthead?
