For those that like this sort of thing Knocked Loose dropped a super gnarly metallic hardcore EP out of nowhere last week. Creepy stop motion animation to go with it too.



I think Contorted In The Faille might be my favourite track, it's just pure rage even by the standards of the genre.

I'm by no means a Converge completist, so there could be better reference points, but it reminded me of Phoenix In Flight from Jane Doe..

Given how some genres spark and then alI but disappear, I find it quite refreshing how a lot of hardcore bands don't really update all that much. With the right amount of ferocity and commitment you can still make a well-trodden path exciting and vital.

Few manage the longevity to develop, that alone is something of achievement. To keep producing quality music throughout is almost unicorn territory. Every Time I Die are similar, dropped a quality new album this week and been plugging away in the hardcore scene since the late 90s.


I'd not heard of Chelsea 'til this collaboration, but then we all move around in our own musical silos.

Looking at her Spotify streams, in so far as that can be used as a gauge, it seems like she's doing well and probably has a significant following, but not the type of artist who's big enough to bleed out of their sphere of influence.

Deathwish have a great catalogue, big fan of Birds In A Row and Bossk in particular.

I don't know how much anyone on here will care, but Every Time I Die have just announced they're going through a non-amicable split with their vocalist. When their upcoming UK tour was cancelled last week I just assumed it was covid shit like Comeback Kid who I was due to see at the end of the month. Alas.

Bands in the decidedly non-commercial scenes I listen to break up all the time, but this one really sucks. I've been listening to them for just shy of 20 years, seen them live a bunch and met the band a couple of times. They weren't the only band to weld southern rock elements onto hardcore, but they were one of the first and one of the few to stick with that sound while managing to carve out a viable career.

In tribute here's a song from the 2003 album that introduced me to them and a cracker from the album they released last year.

I've been playing these guys a bit this week... they're a 'Siberian' band from the minority Chulym tribe, one of the Tartar groups. They use traditional instruments, throat singing and draw on their nativist shaman type backgrounds. Quite spectacular ahh, viewing

Love that tune - Dunedin sound is feckin timeless. Binged on Flying Nun over the weekend - The Clean, The Chills, The Verlaines, The Bats, JPS, Dead C.....led to some of the newer stuff like Headless Chickens, Dance Exponents, Hello Sailor, Th' Dudes and DD Smash etc etc.



Too many drunken sing-a-longs with this one.

Got the oldest looking one of us to get the rounds at the bar - the rest of us loitered at the back trying to look as invisible as possible. Didn't help that just as the music finished and we started to leave we bumped into a group of our teachers! Thankfully they were even more pissed than we were and nothing was ever said.

Similar story.....blagged our way in to a bar that had a live band on. Well chuffed with ourselves - until we realized that the band playing was Satellite Spies. Evening went downhill very quickly as the girl I was crushing on ended up pulling the bass player and one of my mates got sparked out by some rando.
