Also, I wanted to boast about just scoring myself a ticket to see the War on Drugs next year

I've been fine with the not seeing family and friends, I'm an unsociable bastard at the best of times, but I've really missed live music, the last gig I went to was 16 months ago now. All being well hopefully got a few lined up for early next year.

Last gig was March 2020, really jonesing. I did have tickets for a gig that had been re-arranged to April of this year. Obviously that didn't happen. It wasn't cancelled, but I've yet to hear about when it will be arranged. Unless that happens over the next few months my first gig back is set to be Feb 2022 - Every Time I Die for what must be at least the 10th time.

Most tours that I see starting to be advertised for the UK are 2022. There're a few I probably wouldn't normally make the effort to attend as I'm not that wild about the bands, but having gone so long without I'll try to go to as many as possible.

In a fit of ludicrous optimism, I got a ticket for Fontaines DC back in January for a gig in May (I think). Obviously that didn't happen and the DMAs gig that was planned for the start of August is off now as well. Just hoping that the ones I've got tickets for in November actually go ahead, though I wouldn't be surprised if we're back in lockdown by then.

Last gig I went to was The 1975 with my much younger nephew.

I am not even going to lie - I like the 80's vibe from the band so was happy to accompany him along as a 'chaperone'.

And it was really good - thoroughly enjoyed myself - and we all went into lockdown a few weeks later.

Meant to be heading to Edinburgh in October to catch Scott Matthews - hope it goes ahead.

Employed To Serve are doing a few warm up dates in November before going on tour with Gojira. As they're Woking-based they're playing The Star in Guildford, which is fairly local to me. I thought that size venue would be a bit below their radar even just for warm up shows, but will happily take it.

Also booked Comeback Kid at the end of January and Every Time I Die a week later.

Get a guitar, learn the B major scale all over the neck, put on a backing track...in the scale of B major...(it is kinda important it is B major) play G sharp minor (or all the relative minor scales will do it, , f sharp mixolydian etc) and improvise the living fuck out of it, on the guitar.

I've seen footage and reviews from a lot of recent US festivals. While it's clearly lovely for everyone to have live music back, large gatherings of people like that give me the heebies at the moment even double jabbed. It's going to be an adjustment

I will say I have attended Old Glory rugby matches (2k) to Major League Baseball games with 40k....and it gets more comfortable each time.

Not sure how prevalent is where you are sock...but I swear I believe 50% of the folks in the US these days are vaping....so my biggest paranoia is when someone is smoking, vaping, etc...when I see that puff, I just get the COVID chills...

The Beach Boys were great last night...yeah, they are old, but they put on a such finely tuned show...over 2 hours of their hits.

I had tickets to Ireland-USA but that was cancelled , so still going to Vegas, and have tickets for Gwen Stefani and a Sting show...the one thing about Vegas everyone must wear a mask inside so it will be interesting.

Was at the isle of wight festival. Not too many massive names but nice to get out. I'm not much of a festival person, but my missus enjoyed it, as did her friend that was visiting.

Taking the kid to her first proper gig in a few weeks, all previous efforts with her tagging along were during a rancid pop phase that endured going back before Covid. Off to see Little Simz, which actually I'm looking forward to also, just hope by then I've stopped crying about how much it costs to see a live act in an age where CDs raise so little money for the industry

Just got a notification that a previously postponed gig has been re-scheduled for Feb 22nd and another notification that a band I'd love to see have a London show on the 25th. I'm already booked to see Rolo Tomassi on the 24th! Will have to spend some time in a soundproofed room for a bit after that week I think.

Also only a little over a week until I get to pop my pandemic gig cherry. Nervous and excited.

First proper gig since Finsbury Park 2018 (Iggy Pop supporting Queen's of the Stone Age, was frankly phenomenal) coming up in August. Going to see Rage Against the Machine in Edinburgh.

I'm a bit worried that their songs will suddenly just sound angsty and teenage to me, since that's the age I was when I got into them. Hopefully it'll just be really fucking loud.

I did have a phase in the early 90s when in a few years I saw Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Judy Collins and Crosby Stills and Nash. Judy Collins at the Pacific Road Theatre Birkenhead. God knows how she ended up there.

Now that I've got two pennies to rub together I've finally started going out to concerts. Been to as many in the past two months as I have all my life.

It's a goal of mine to see as many of the legends as possible, as you can't expect many will be around much longer. Saw The Who at Boston Garden, amazing. Unbelievable how good they still sound. Did miss Paul McCartney at Fenway Park last week though, pregnant wife wasn't feeling it. She will be forced to see Roger Waters in July though.

As a metalhead I fulfilled a lifelong dream and finally saw Metallica in the Harvard football stadium a couple weeks back too. Embarrassed to admit this but only just held back tears when they came out to Whiplash. It was awesome. And as someone who hates their 90s period it was also just about the best setlist I could have hoped for.

1500 capacity is about my limit for a decent show. The smaller the better generally. Went to a 200 cap spot a couple of months ago and it was an absolute blast. Nothing can beat when those rooms are full and people know the band enough to want to dance and sing along (or shout along as tends to be the case with much of what I listen to).

When I was at uni in Exeter there was a 250 cap place that seemed to be able to book bands that were seemingly far too big for it. I saw bands like Every Time I Die and The Bronx there who I'd already seen play venues 4 times the size in London during my 6th form years.

3 hours last week for 02 (Billie Eilish).

Was 10,300 in the queue to get Foo Fighters tickets at 9:00:01 Friday morning. Nothing left by the time I got my chance 15 mins later.

Ok not what some of you fellas are getting to see, but way down under in NZ, they have been setting up a series of shows featuring top musos from different acts etc, and doing a show where they do their inerprataion of top big albums from over the years. They call them Come Together, went up to Auckland to see them do ''Sticky Fingers'', geez it was f***en good, first half did album and second half just random Stones songs. That show there were 12 musos playing/singing so really wide range of sound etc.
Anyway there another 4 shows coming up, going to 3 of them in August. Oct and Nov where they will be doing Ziggy Stardust (Bowie), Damn The Torpedoes (tom Petty) and White Album (Beatles). Can't wait so wrapt to be getting to live music again, and I make disclaimer now mightn't sound much to a lot of you, but I turning 68 during the time those shows are on and I just love good musos doing most stuff.
Also add it kind of got juices running for stuff loading up with tickets to rugby (irish in NZ) and got tickets for Comedian in New Year (Sarah Millican) and so good to be getting back to going places!!
