Ruptured Achilles apparently for Ford. That's usually a decent spell on the sidelines. Likely well into next season

Ah shite. That's not good at all. Isn't it usually the best part of a year?Margin__Walker wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:17 am Ruptured Achilles apparently for Ford. That's usually a decent spell on the sidelines. Likely well into next season

9 months is the usual ballpark, assuming no complications during rehab. Really unfortunate for him. Hopefully he's back next March and able to prove form for the World Cup.inactionman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:58 amAh shite. That's not good at all. FFS, that's Sale's start to the season fucked then. Just like last year with Faf and AJ.Margin__Walker wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:17 am Ruptured Achilles apparently for Ford. That's usually a decent spell on the sidelines. Likely well into next season

I'd worry what this might mean for England prospects, given he's already a bit in and out of the team and he's not likely to make much, if any of the 6N.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:20 am9 months is the usual ballpark, assuming no complications during rehab. I don't think Ford is getting back in the England team again. Jones has made his decision and so long as Farrell and Smith are fit they'll be the options With Furbank as back up, for some reason.
I'm really gutted for Ford, it would have been great to watch him and Quirke together.

Ford looked exceptional when playing alongside Stringer at Bath, as Stringer's game was pretty much just to provide excellent delivery to the 10. Stringer had comparatively little running threat.Brazil wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:36 am I don't think Ford is getting back in the England team again. Interested in how Quirke's busier, more sniping game would sync with Ford - it's a real shame we'll not get to see it for a while.

Yeah, probably wishful thinking on my part. I'd back him to be playing well enough after 3 months of Prem and a world cup camp to step in and take the reins if required.Brazil wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:36 am I don't think Ford is getting back in the England team again. Just noticed that Sam Wainwright - Saracens THP - has been drafted into Welsh squad for SA. Never heard of him, not that that proves anything. Is he under the radar but decent or is it a sign of our desparate weakness in that position? I think I know the answer but he's from Rhyl so he should be hard.

He's the reserve reserve THP. Can't remember him starting a game.
As I feared.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 1:27 pmGogLais wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:49 pm Just noticed that Sam Wainwright - Saracens THP - has been drafted into Welsh squad for SA. I've heard at least one doc say repairs can do wonders ... 'come back stronger'. But as someone with chronic achilles issues, I hope it's not his kicking foot. Toes down punts can trigger a pain relapse with me.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:20 am9 months is the usual ballpark, assuming no complications during rehab. Really unfortunate for him. It seems like they get absolutely top notch care with leading specialists etc., so I can imagine that's certainly possible. Of course even with that, you can be Anthony Watson and turn a 9 month absence into a year with a rehab setback.Niegs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 1:57 pmI've heard at least one doc say repairs can do wonders ... It's pretty astonishing. Cannot think of anything useful he's done and he's had enough caps.
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day

Did you see the tackle? Looked like the TMO wanted the ref to look at it but it didn't get resolved. Citing commissioner ignored it as well. Very odd. Ewels just keeps going in high leading with his head.

Can't say I remember it - I had the game on in the background as I watched the cricket. No real shock as nothing I've ever seen of Ewels screams 'thinking rugby'Kawazaki wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 9:56 amPaddington Bear wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 9:52 am It's pretty astonishing. Who is saying this;
...about who?
“I’ve loved playing with him a few times in the autumn. He’s a massive competitor and wears his heart on his sleeve. More than that he’s got brilliant vision and skills at the line. We trained together a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. I’ve loved learning off him and bouncing ideas off him. Hopefully we can put our competitive edge together to try and get a Test series win. Both of us want to do that. We’ve spoken long and hard about it. I’m really looking forward to seeing him.”

So, casual racism is rife in Premiership rugby every week according to Luther Burrell.
https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2F ... -slave%2FIn an extraordinary interview with echoes of that by Azeem Rafiq two years ago which sparked English cricket’s racism scandal, Burrell said there was racist “banter” in his own sport “every week” and that it had become “normalised”.
Burrell - who has played for Leeds, Sale, Northampton and Newcastle - was also said by the Mail on Sunday to have recent hard evidence of such bigotry in the form of WhatsApp messages.
But the 32 year-old vowed he would “never name names”, saying he had gone public to provoke change and prevent his three- and five-year-old children going through what he had.
I remember when a new lock joined my old club back in about 1999. He was a very big lad, about 6'6", originally from Wolverhampton. He was easily the biggest player I'd personally played with at the club and I still remain mates with him to this day. On the bus back from his first XV debut he was 'asked'* to sing a song. He sang "Sambo was a terrible Coon". He is a black man.
* Asked in the usual rugby way via the song; "...we've seen your ring, it's an 'orrible thing so sing you bastard sing".)

Cited and received a 3 week ban today
Saracens Wales' scrum-half Aled Davies has been given a three-week ban after accepting a charge of dangerous tackling during the team's Premiership final defeat to Leicester.
Davies, 29, was shown a yellow card for making contact with the head of Tigers hooker Julian Montoya with his shoulder in a tackle in the 24th minute.

Fair play to him for absolving Saints, they don't strike me as a club with that sort of environment, especially with players like Lawes and Ludlum so embedded there, to say nothing of various Pacific Islanders, but given how long he was there speculation was bound to be rife. It does seem apparent from his list of clubs that a couple of those are noticeably less diverse in their playing squads than certain others.
For my own club, I know that Paolo Odogwu has openly spoken about finally being able to be himself at Wasps and there was a lot of backing given to BLM stuff given the number of black players we had at the time/still have. I'd like to think we wouldn't harbour people who made the sort of comments Burrell's been subject to even under the guise of 'banter'.

Really highlights the lack of citings from the playoffs though...
I can't remember who it was who twatted Hutchinson in the semi-final, but that definitely should have been cited.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:41 pmRightly so.SaintK wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 3:40 pmCited and received a 3 week ban todaySaracens Wales' scrum-half Aled Davies has been given a three-week ban after accepting a charge of dangerous tackling during the team's Premiership final defeat to Leicester.

If you think it's Leeds then say it's Leeds - while Stuart Lancaster was coach...

Note that the citing commission rejected the daft claim about the "dominance of the ball carrier" being at all relevant:
It was such a weird thing to have cropped up, it just stank of referees trying their hardest not to give a red card and I'm glad it's been called out.“I do not accept that the dominance of the ball-carrier in falling forward post the collision to be a reason for this to suggest a low degree of danger.”

Porter's tackle in the semifinal was by far the most egregious yellow card. Of course he's not a Saracens player though.

Some more than others, Sale currently have one black player in their senior squad for example*, which can often be reflective of the catchment and thus the levels of familiarity players have with someone of a particular background. Direct experience is usually the best boundary breaker and awareness raiser. Not that the comments Burrell reports are ok, but I can just about see someone who's not spent much time around black people thinking it was ok under the guise of banter because rugby players can be quite savage towards each other.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:58 pmsockwithaticket wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:40 pm Fair play to him for absolving Saints, they don't strike me as a club with that sort of environment, especially with players like Lawes and Ludlum so embedded there, to say nothing of various Pacific Islanders, but given how long he was there speculation was bound to be rife. * Two if we count Manu as another person of colour, though I'm sure we're all aware that some racists do have a black only, Asian only or other exclusive type of prejudice.

Hopefully it marks a bit of a corrective starting , because refs have noticeably been bottling calls over the last few months. First with the level of danger nonsense and now with 'dominance' thrown in on top.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:03 pmYeah, it was a free-for-all.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:41 pmRightly so.
