That’s an amazing result. After going to bed after the first set I wasn’t expecting to wake up to anything other than a Medvedev straight sets win.

I went to bed after the second set with Medvedev 2 sets to love up. Thought he'd win easily. Although tbf he kind of stole the 2nd set against the run of play. Thought I'd just put on the recording to watch the final set next morning not knowing the result. Sat there from about 10am until 1pm as Nadal came back to grind out an incredible 5 set victory.

Never been Nadal's biggest fan but there is no denying his greatness. Absolutely epic come from behind win.

You picked a good place to go - flushing meadows is definitely on my bucket list, my ex tennis coach's brother runs a company who arrange tennis trips and that was one of the tournaments on offer. Never got round to it.

Atmosphere good? Wimbledon can be OK but it's all a bit Cliff Richard.

Also Yankee Stadium being a soulless dump. Went to Citifield (Mets), Target Field (Twins) and the Great American Ballpark (Reds). Got a double header at the Reds because the previous day was rained off and saw this little beauty



Reds was my 12th MLB stadium that I’ve seen a game at.

A very strange affair all around. Some pundits were desperate for him to made into an anti vax pariah when in reality he just made the personal decision not to get vaccinated on medical grounds.

Considering he is probably more careful about what he puts into his body than 99% of the population and is obviously incredibly fit it was strange how many people did not give him the benefit of the doubt.

It was a perfect example of how an issue is politicised in the modern climate.

I addressed this earlier, but a couple of posters seem intent on rewriting history to suit their agenda. Djokovic lied to Australia's border force, providing faked test results. He did this in an effort to get around the government policy at the time regarding vaccination and infection for entry.

Additionally, earlier in the pandemic phase, he had hosted a tournament flouting advice around contact and transmission risk. It's pertinent to suggest that perhaps he had his own political agenda running throughout the whole process and came unstuck.

Trying to paint the Australian govt as some sort of villain here is misguided or ill informed.

We were there 4 years ago when he supposedly played his final match. We were sitting two rows behind his team. I've never seen determination and fight like it, he could barely walk but fought a five setter until one in the morning. One of the greatest sporting events I have seen.

I dunno, I get the feeling that he does actually like playing tennis and being a sportsman. Certainly compared to some tennis players for whom it's just a job or a ticket to the high life.
