Not so sure, numerous games against France have been a score to two's difference in recent years. Also I feel last autumn wasn't the first time England showed their hands against New Zealand right before a world cup for NZ to learn and they have massively got their shit together. We'll see.

I said the issue with Wales was their complete lack of attacking cohesion and ability to gets backs onto the ball in a dangerous way but they would spend all day tackling until exhaustion. All the prfoessionalsim hasn't changed that essentially. To much gym focus I think and not enough on creative thought and devloping those lines of skill.

Pool B features Canada (4), USA, (5) and Italy (6), with Japan (13) making up the numbers.

Pool C features England and France (ranked 1 and 3), with SA (ranked 11) and Fiji (21)

Although NZ are guaranteed to win their group with three easy wins, the other teams in the knockout stages may benefit from having had at least one tough match in the group stages. Pool B looks like the toughest group by quite some way.

Helena Rowland had a great game, and deservedly won player of the match.

Interestingly, she was taken off with more than 12 minutes to go as she was starting to have cramp, and Middleton didn't want to risk her picking up an injury. As England had already used up all their subs, this meant that they voluntarily played the last 12 minutes with only 14 players. This didn't seem to make the slightest difference to the run of play, and they were still able to score their final try during this period of play.

Ah, sorry, should have read the rules. But that means most of the top teams will go thru as most likely 3 from group B. So no real 'group of death'. And I always reckon if you're gonna win these things you've gotta be able to beat any team on any given day, so shouldn't matter if you qualify 1st or 3rd.

I'm very surprised that Brown made it, as she's been poor in her past few appearences and never really brought her top Quins form to England. Though I'm surprised Keates us in there given she didn't play the past few tests and was sropped out the squad. She's not played much for England in the past 4 or 5 years, I think only 1 or 2 games, but she's by far the best scrummager at tighthead when I did see her play.

The aussies haven't been very good at XVs for some years with the women. Though they can always score tries and flow in attack. But thsoe attacks are always one move away from a knock-on. I'd imagine Scotland game witht heir defence, pace in the backs and kicking ability will be a match-up nightmare for them.

I'd avoid jinxing it. France could, well, do a France and The Black Ferns are cooking up soemthing I think and always get the rub of the ref against England at World Cups. I'd also add I suspect based on how games should go, England could play France twice and could lose either one on the day. Though I'm not sure what happened agaisnt Italy the other week.

I'd say Bryony Cleall IMO, especially after Shaunagh Brown played really badly recently. I'm mostly surprised Hunt didn't go due to Middleton's constant praise of her, despite IMO some poor Scrum half basics and her Ben Young's style dithering to get the ball out.

For the most part I can't see any other surprise drop-outs. I'm actually overall pelased with the squad given who I predicted it should be.

I actually predeicty Bryony Cleal wouldnt make the cut, she is a massive unit but really really underperforms in the scrum, and doesnt really show up in the loose.

Shaunagh Brown does as well. Both late 20s converts to tighthead. IMO a late converted prop will never get that great in the scrum unless they have some flair and innate talent for it. I'm not a fan of doing it really. My post here will probably show both Bryony and Shaunagh were two fo the most devetstaing backrowers in the game at 6 (Bryony sometimes at 8) back in 2017 and 2018 before they switched.

My theory is like Poppy Cleall move moved to 6 and lock, they were encourage to convert as captain Sarah Hunter was not moving from 8, even though I'd argue the most effective back row wouldn't include her (Currently Packer, Aldcroft and Cleall) in terms of current quality, not that Hunter isn't a good player. Also at that time Justine Lucas was retiring leaving Sarah Bern the only quality tighthead, though Maud Muir has rectified that as she is brilliant.

On that subject of change, only 12 of the 2017 squad is going to this world cup.
