Not so sure, numerous games against France have been a score to two's difference in recent years. Also I feel last autumn wasn't the first time England showed their hands against New Zealand right before a world cup for NZ to learn and they have massively got their shit together. We'll see.ASMO wrote: Sat Aug 27, 2022 10:58 am Its basically all about who will come second, not to put too fine a point on it, England are as close to a cert to win this WRWC as i have ever known.

Bit of a turnaround in Tokyo where Japan beat Ireland 29 - 10 after having been thoroughly outplayed in Shizuoka last week. "New look" Wales predictably thumped by Canada, 31 - 3 and USA edged a win over Scotland 21 - 17 in Edinburgh.

Good result for Italy in Biella last night, though don't know the relative strength of the French team
Italy 26 - 19 France

That’s not a noticeably under strength French team, so looks like a very good result for Italy.tabascoboy wrote: Sat Sep 10, 2022 10:36 am Good result for Italy in Biella last night, though don't know the relative strength of the French team

I said the issue with Wales was their complete lack of attacking cohesion and ability to gets backs onto the ball in a dangerous way but they would spend all day tackling until exhaustion. All the prfoessionalsim hasn't changed that essentially. To much gym focus I think and not enough on creative thought and devloping those lines of skill.tabascoboy wrote: Sun Aug 28, 2022 8:18 am Bit of a turnaround in Tokyo where Japan beat Ireland 29 - 10 after having been thoroughly outplayed in Shizuoka last week. I was surprised at some of that France game, losing a scrum penalty to Italy, little cohesion or threat in attack. Looks for now they went backwards since the 6 Nations.laurent wrote: Sat Sep 10, 2022 9:09 pm Laporte was unhappy about the team results (not getting a slam) so he put one of his goons in charge...

That's sad news. Excellent player and key for Italy. Just before a world where Italy might have a good one. The new format will allow them to go further and for the first time they have prepered for one, usually they rock up after their season ends unprepared (and their season ends later than most others not allowing much prep).sturginho wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 10:31 am Manuela Furlan has been forced to retire from rugby after her injury in the first game against France![]()
The pools for the World Cup are starting to look rather imbalanced.
Pool A features NZ (ranked 2), but no other top ranked team Aus (7), Wales (9) and Scotland (10)
Pool B features Canada (4), USA, (5) and Italy (6), with Japan (13) making up the numbers.
Pool C features England and France (ranked 1 and 3), with SA (ranked 11) and Fiji (21)
Although NZ are guaranteed to win their group with three easy wins, the other teams in the knockout stages may benefit from having had at least one tough match in the group stages. Pool B looks like the toughest group by quite some way.

Is the 'retirement' more about her age, was likely going to do so after the World Cup? Hoping it's not one of those "One more of these and it will seriously impact your future!" injuries.eldanielfire wrote: Mon Sep 12, 2022 10:40 amThat's sad news. Excellent player and key for Italy. Red Roses now 25 in a row having thrashed Wales last night. Love to see them unbeaten at the World Cup in New Zealand as well!
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2 ... -recordA Helena Rowland hat-trick helped England to a 73-7 win over Wales at Ashton Gate, which means the Red Roses will head to the World Cup on a winning run of 25 consecutive matches. They are the first international rugby team to win 25 in a row – the perfect springboard from which to launch their campaign on 8 October against Fiji.

Interestingly, she was taken off with more than 12 minutes to go as she was starting to have cramp, and Middleton didn't want to risk her picking up an injury. As England had already used up all their subs, this meant that they voluntarily played the last 12 minutes with only 14 players. This didn't seem to make the slightest difference to the run of play, and they were still able to score their final try during this period of play.
2 go through from each group, with the two best 3rd place teams also going through.Snooze wrote: Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:02 pmOn paper you're right. But you can't count out the Aussies. Ah, sorry, should have read the rules. But that means most of the top teams will go thru as most likely 3 from group B. So no real 'group of death'. And I always reckon if you're gonna win these things you've gotta be able to beat any team on any given day, so shouldn't matter if you qualify 1st or 3rd.Lobby wrote: Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:51 pm2 go through from each group, with the two best 3rd place teams also going through.Snooze wrote: Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:02 pmOn paper you're right. I'm very surprised that Brown made it, as she's been poor in her past few appearences and never really brought her top Quins form to England. Though I'm surprised Keates us in there given she didn't play the past few tests and was sropped out the squad. She's not played much for England in the past 4 or 5 years, I think only 1 or 2 games, but she's by far the best scrummager at tighthead when I did see her play.

The aussies haven't been very good at XVs for some years with the women. Though they can always score tries and flow in attack. But thsoe attacks are always one move away from a knock-on. I'd imagine Scotland game witht heir defence, pace in the backs and kicking ability will be a match-up nightmare for them.Snooze wrote: Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:02 pmOn paper you're right. I'd avoid jinxing it. France could, well, do a France and The Black Ferns are cooking up soemthing I think and always get the rub of the ref against England at World Cups. I'd also add I suspect based on how games should go, England could play France twice and could lose either one on the day. Though I'm not sure what happened agaisnt Italy the other week.SaintK wrote: Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:29 am Red Roses now 25 in a row having thrashed Wales last night. I'd say Bryony Cleall IMO, especially after Shaunagh Brown played really badly recently. I'm mostly surprised Hunt didn't go due to Middleton's constant praise of her, despite IMO some poor Scrum half basics and her Ben Young's style dithering to get the ball out.Niegs wrote: Tue Sep 20, 2022 1:41 pmBesides Hunt, who might be the other surprise drops?eldanielfire wrote: Tue Sep 20, 2022 12:24 pm England RWC squad:

Shaunagh Brown does as well. Both late 20s converts to tighthead. IMO a late converted prop will never get that great in the scrum unless they have some flair and innate talent for it. I'm not a fan of doing it really. My post here will probably show both Bryony and Shaunagh were two fo the most devetstaing backrowers in the game at 6 (Bryony sometimes at 8) back in 2017 and 2018 before they switched.ASMO wrote: Wed Sep 21, 2022 6:49 am I actually predeicty Bryony Cleal wouldnt make the cut, she is a massive unit but really really underperforms in the scrum, and doesnt really show up in the loose.
My theory is like Poppy Cleall move moved to 6 and lock, they were encourage to convert as captain Sarah Hunter was not moving from 8, even though I'd argue the most effective back row wouldn't include her (Currently Packer, Aldcroft and Cleall) in terms of current quality, not that Hunter isn't a good player. Also at that time Justine Lucas was retiring leaving Sarah Bern the only quality tighthead, though Maud Muir has rectified that as she is brilliant.
On that subject of change, only 12 of the 2017 squad is going to this world cup.

Di Giandomenico leaves the Italy job after 12 years in charge. In those 12 years he took the Azzurre to consecutive world cups, an historic first QF, an historic runners-up in the 6N and leaves with the team 5th in the world rankings.
Thanks for everything

A mate ended up doing it and said they were very professional, which was more than can be said for the T2 men's programs he'd worked with before (lack of organization, being needy that is)
