Some pool Edinburgh have in Challenge Cup
Castres, Montpellier, Clermont, Invitee 2, Gloucester and Scarlets
My son and I have always said that the Stade Marcel-Michelin was the one stadium we would make a point of going to if Edinburgh never played them.
We never imagined we'd end up playing them as we were both poor, and the frenzy had abated. Watch us get them at home.
Never been to Castres, nor Montpellier for many years. But depending on the draws there are some decent potential away trips in there.
Just noticed, no Montpellier. Castres, Clermont, Scarlets, Invitee, Scarlets, Edinburgh is the six team group.
Went to Montpellier when we had them in the Champs Cup a few years back. Had a great time. Castres or Clernmont would be fun though.

I am going to one of those France away games! That's ridiculous though.
I would recommend Montpellier, it is gorgeous and has a huge stadium

Fuck all detail, but sounds interesting
Yeah, I think this is a good development. It should hopefully help with the struggles the U20s have been having if they are at least getting some decent preparation from having meaningful games with a consistent coaching setup.
Quite disappointed with that. Was hoping he'd stay as attack coach. On the positive side though maybe, for once, a new head coach is being allowed to appoint his staff.
Yeah, I'm very disappointed, but the story in TOL states the club's position is that appointments will be made by the new head coach.
I'm rowing back a little on my position of not being concerned about the lack of news on the head coach and I have to hope that there is something in the pipeline

Thats good then. Might also mean it's a big name (one that is able to make some stipulations) if there's someone in place that's bot been named. I'm not concerned yet but it surely couldn't do any harm to say if there's someone involved without giving out names. Assuming, of course, that is the case.

I dunno about the head coach thing but they are basically doing pre-season now without any attack/skills coaches in place with Gareth Barber already having gone.

Les Kiss and Marius Goosen are apparently in the running for the embra job according to Jamie Lyall. I'd probably prefer the former out of those 2 but more because I don't know much about Goosen.

Also don't know much about Goosen as a coach, but Kiss is superb. LI were on an upward trajectory on the pitch and the players all seemed to have a lot of time for him.
I can't say I know too much about these boys - the only ones I have really heard a lot about are the hooker Blyth-Lafferty (Jerry, the elder I think) and the flanker Liam McConnell about whom there is considerable buzz. I recognise plenty of the names but would be interested if anyone can pick out the ones to watch?

I think it is the sensible move for all parties.
Blair gets to go and experience another league with a HC he trusts and Edinburgh move on from being in a position with a former HC as a backs/attack coach that may not suit the new HC.
Not too worried about there being no HC yet. This part of pre season, which is still very early, will all be about fitness.
Jesus Christ. I have just seen that the SRU have appointed Ruth Davidson as a non-exec director. I know that right-wing Unionists are over-represented in Scottish rugby, but they have actually lost their fucking minds with this one. Now every penny I spend on anything SRU branded will be contributing to Rape Clause Ruth’s pension fund.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I despise almost everything Ruth stands for, but I have to say its hard to be too critical of this appointment when compared to the usual blazers. An exceptionally talented and well connected gay woman who has had a very successful career and has managed a very large organisation pretty well rather than a random middle-aged white bloke who likely holds all the same right wing views. Tbh I would say they haven't done too badly, but happy to be shot down on this because, you know, Torries.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on ‘very successful’. She was inflated and platformed by the media to such an extent that many not clued in to Scottish politics thought she had won the election in Scotland, rather than finish a distant second. Then she ran away rather than face the music and lose her seat. Then she was given a peerage so she can have political influence for the rest of her life without ever facing the electorate again. But yeah, apart from that.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Ohh FFS. Having just laughed my way through a toxic Twitter thread I wasn’t expecting to see this nonsense here as well

I wish it were nonsense, but it isn’t. They did it. They actually appointed pretty much the most divisive person possible to the SRU board. Utterly toxic to most to the Scottish population. I’m sure she ticks plenty of boxes for the SRU, but she is about as tainted as they come. The SRU is putting two fingers up to the public with this one.
I haven’t been into the political thread for years, but the SRU have decided to make rugby political now, so here we are.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Oh, and the sheer hypocrisy of Ruth bloody Davidson being appointed to any body purporting to represent Scotland is beyond belief. As far as she is concerned it’s nothing more than North Britain.
I won’t say I won’t attend any matches until she is gone, but I’ll think twice about it, and I certainly won’t be buying any merchandise.
Perhaps the ‘toxic’ Twitter thread might suggest how massively unpopular an appointment this will turn out to be.

Imagine the state of her when FoS is played pre game… never mind when we play England and she has the added stress of GSTK, she can’t win - traitor or hypocrite… probably both.
I’m very much a nationalist but overly political individuals should be kept away from sporting positions like this imo. I would feel the same if it was a high profile nationalist politician.
Huge own goal by the SRU imo. Not exactly doing much to dispel the view of rugby in Scotland as being elitist, non inclusive and, dare I say, right wing.

Can you imagine the outcry that would have ensued if they had announced they had appointed Alex Salmond?
I absolutely agree with you. I would be less offended by a pro-Indy politician, but I don’t think they would be any more appropriate an appointment.

Will be interesting to see what both new Non-Exec directors bring. I would have stayed and would stay away from political appointments as most of them are arseholes.
I imagine their remits will be to do with media and equality and inclusion. Hopefully they bring good things to the table.
