2020 Mitre 10 Cup Thread
You could wait to see Cane playing before winding up his careerCarter's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:54 am What's really evident to me is that Ardie Savea lacks the bulk and body size to be an effective no.8, even at lowly Mitre 10 Cup level. He's an openside flanker trying to play a different position. All to protect Sam Cane's precious All Black 7 jersey and captaincy.

We won’t be able to judge Cane at openside this week. Mitch Karpik has been preferred at 7 for BOP.Enzedder wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:01 amYou could wait to see Cane playing before winding up his careerCarter's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:54 am What's really evident to me is that Ardie Savea lacks the bulk and body size to be an effective no.8, even at lowly Mitre 10 Cup level. My feed is playing up but we are locked up at 12 all after 20 minutes.

Just reflecting on last night's game, I was very impressed with the debutant Canterbury TH prop Fletcher Newell. He scrummaged really well winning two scrum penalties against Karl Tu'inukuafe in his first two scrums and generally having the better of the experience All Black LH prop.

Sam Cane doesn't need to play. He's that good. He's too busy captaining and dancing on tables for Ian Foster.Jb1981 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:06 amWe won’t be able to judge Cane at openside this week. his weakness is his height, nothing more, he is far more talented than jordie and even jordan who are both over 6'1 while he is barely 5'9Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:23 amI agree that if he was exactly as fast, agile and evasive as he is now, but was 6'4" and weighed 105kg, that he would be a great player. And if my Auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.
Yeah, first time I've ever heard him called that.Taranaki Snapper wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:25 amWhat "They" call Adam Thompson, apparently...Kiwias wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:22 am?Taranaki Snapper wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:19 am "The Red Shark"? Yeah, 'cos that's totally a thing...

Shows he is still bloody quick with an intercept 10m from his tryline and a try under the posts at the other end of the pitch.stemoc wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:32 amhis weakness is his height, nothing more, he is far more talented than jordie and even jordan who are both over 6'1 while he is barely 5'9Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:23 amI agree that if he was exactly as fast, agile and evasive as he is now, but was 6'4" and weighed 105kg, that he would be a great player. Porkchop nutmegged by a pointy ball...

Well deserved win by the Mooloos. Too organised and accurate compared to Wellington, who where a shambles.
I thought the ref had a very good game, though he ended it with th bizarre penalty against Ardie for a leading with the shoulder.
Hopefully Wellington does not have rely on the likes of Bachop, either of them, Jules or their replacement props. Between the Bachops and Jules, I counted about 7, possibly eight handling errors. While Jules ran hard, he's still got tits for hands and is even more useless under the high ball. Renata is a waste of sp0ace at the back as well.
I thought the Waikato halfback, Xavier Roe (any relation to Alison?), dMac and the other midfielder had great games, with decent input from ALB. I'd have given Fletcher Smith some kudos for a tidy game, but will wait to judge him on half decent opponent.

I was disappointed Otago couldn't snare him again this year - he was one of their most consistent players last year. And I mean consistently good, not consistently bad.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:15 am Nice to see Adam Thomson still playing. Although, how bad does red hair clash with the Waikato jersey?
He was still reliably winning lineout ball, pilfering turnovers and making strong tackles - plus he still had an impressive turn of pace for a 37 year-old. I remember him snaffling an intercept about 40 metres out against Canterbury and running it in under the posts with Josh McKay in hot pursuit. He may have made up a metre on him but that would be all.
Is there a jersey colour that hair would go well with?
