Not Heineken Cup 23/24
He just gave up on that last try. Leicester getting absolutely bummed dry.

He has had some very good games for Leicester, he's also had more than few that make it hard to justify his wages.

Sarries have a really old backline, van Zyl is the youngest at 28 and Tompkins is 29 next month, the rest are all over 30. Goode and Maitland were never that quick to begin with. Could get torn to shreds out wide if Bordeaux get on a roll.
Bit unfair. In his prime Goode could easily run 20m in under 10s.sockwithaticket wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:46 pm Sarries have a really old backline, van Zyl is the youngest at 28 and Tompkins is 29 next month, the rest are all over 30. I suspect that time is closer for 10m nowPCPhil wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:50 pmBit unfair. Screamer of a try to claim the bonus point on minute 34.

Sarries being torn to shreds. Penaud's ability to slip tackles never ceases to amaze.
Maitlands attempted tackle was patheticsockwithaticket wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:43 pm Sarries being torn to shreds. Penaud's ability to slip tackles never ceases to amaze.

Think a few turnovers have been questionable, with little clear release, but giving them two tries off missed offloads or intercepts minimises my sympathy.

Didn't realise Dan was that fast

Maybe, but he does it all the time to players of much higher quality who look like they have him bang to rights. It's more remarkable when he doesn't beat the first man than when he doesn't.ASMO wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:46 pmMaitlands attempted tackle was patheticsockwithaticket wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:43 pm Sarries being torn to shreds. WTf have I just watched.
Bordeaux winger slices it to Lewington10 yards out who just runs it straight into cover defence, and then the ball gets bounced of Isiekwe's melon.

I saw some stat that he breaks through about 80% of attempted tackles.sockwithaticket wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:43 pm Sarries being torn to shreds. Penaud's ability to slip tackles never ceases to amaze.

Obviously some poor results for Prem teams this weekend, but half of our teams are now qualified for the next round.

if his agent hasn't agreed a salary already, for his move to France, I think he'll have to adjust his expectations downward.

The French teams is in a different class. Only Leinster will compete with the class of Toulouse, Bordeaux and LaRh.assfly wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 5:44 am That was incredible from Bordeaux. Against a full-strength Saracens too. They look like contenders.
I am sure they are already through. LaRh vs Bath this weekend. The losing team will join Stade Francais in the group of death.Dobson confirmed that the Stormers will be taking a full-strength squad to Paris for their final-round clash against Stade Francais, as they look to secure a place in the round of 16.
The Bulls and Stormers wont be able to host a semi final. It will be great if they get that far. Both look set to at least host a home round of 16. The opponent will be decided on the log points in total which counts against the teams in the tough pool 4.

Just saw Bordeaux will meet the Bulls at Loftus this weekend. That will be their real test but then they will probably send a bunch of academy players.assfly wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 5:44 am That was incredible from Bordeaux. Against a full-strength Saracens too. They look like contenders.
Ja, this whole thing about sending weak teams for away fixtures is a bit weird.OomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 10:36 am Just saw Bordeaux will meet the Bulls at Loftus this weekend. That will be their real test but then they will probably send a bunch of academy players.
That was quite the worst Sarries performance I can recall seeing in years.assfly wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 5:44 am That was incredible from Bordeaux. Against a full-strength Saracens too. They look like contenders.
Time for major squad refresh!

The Bulls will be without their Springboks. Their B team was pretty good against Bristol. The A team will be well rest for Bordeaux. Jake White has build some real depth.assfly wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 10:40 amJa, this whole thing about sending weak teams for away fixtures is a bit weird.OomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 10:36 am Just saw Bordeaux will meet the Bulls at Loftus this weekend. Yeah it seems White has learned a few lessons from last season when the wheels came off after Christmas. The Puma players that he contracted for the URC have been good and the few old hands brought back for the forwards have helped a lot. A bit frustrating not to see the Bok players back for the home game this weekend though. Whereas all our overseas boks keep playing week in, week out, without these mandated 8 week of rest.OomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 11:03 amThe Bulls will be without their Springboks. White decided to do it early while it seems that the Stormers and Sharks will rest their boks during the 6 nations period. So I guess White wants to get the resting out of the way so the team have less interruptions towards the business end of the season. Luckily the replacements for the most part have done a good job, and even in the games they lost they still managed to pick up bonus points.
As usual looking forward to get out and watch a live game of rugby.

Cokanasiga is still a useless lump, mind.
The old Heineken Cup had plans to use stadiums in Amsterdam, Barcelona etc for finals. Thought the Bilbao one was excellent but it seems there's a lack of ambition to do that more. Although no doubt we'll se it in fucking Dubai or Riyadh soon instead.assfly wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 1:11 pm That game in Amsterdam was incredible. And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
We could have the Final in the same stadium every year and use one of the existing competitors' grounds. To ensure that that a finalist never gets home advantage, I suggest we pick Durban.Biffer wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 1:23 pmThe old Heineken Cup had plans to use stadiums in Amsterdam, Barcelona etc for finals. I really dont think that concept will work in SA except if the home franchise is involved in the final. Its not like in Europe where the supporters can go to the stadium.Sandstorm wrote: Mon Jan 15, 2024 1:28 pmWe could have the Final in the same stadium every year and use one of the existing competitors' grounds.
