It's exhausting following the maelstrom of chaos and toxicity, let alone participating in it. How do the mental stresses not break some if the individuals involved?

Other than this election will be more about the challenger than the President, and that's very unusual, perhaps even unique.fishfoodie wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:09 amI understand the concern, but I don't think that's how it will work.Enzedder wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:47 amI think those 91 prosecutions are precisely why he will be re-elected. So much free advertising - and then there is the sympathy vote as so many voters see these cases as political.fishfoodie wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 10:06 pm
Well let's wait till NH has it's caucus Tuesday; we'll have some idea then how many of Meatballs supporters were "Never Trumpers", & how many were just looking for a younger MAGA candidate.
It was always going to take something extraordinary for the loser traitor to not get the nomination; but luckily there are at least 91 extraordinary things going on at the moment, & there's also the 14th Amendment discussion to play out.
There are a significant percentage of even MAGA nutters who concede that a guilty verdict in any one of the criminal trials would stop them voting for him; & that, or an adverse SCOTUS decision would leave the GOP scrambling to either run a candidate who will not only lose (again), but also destroy the chances on the down-ballot votes, & might lose the GOP more than just the Presidency !!!
Now even in the event of 91x convictions, I don't think the loser would withdraw, so they might face going into the Convention trying to get an electable alternative candidate against the one chosen by their caucuses, & I've know idea how that would even work.
It's true that each time he got indicted, he got a boost in donations, & he & his lick-spittles trumpeted this as a sign of support for him. The fact was that the donation spike got smaller & smaller every time, & given that legal fees are the biggest ticket item in the campaign finances, he needs to get charged a lot more !
This campaign has the same basic considerations as every other one. Each side has their base vote, & then there are the independent voters in the middle.
All of the GOP failures between Biden's win, have shown that the MAGA base is the only safe votes he can rely on. Overturning Roe v Wade was an incredible misstep, & it lost many Non-MAGA GOP votes, & most of the independents. I don't think he'll get as many sympathy votes, as Biden will get votes from Non-MAGAs who just want madness to stop; they're sick of it.
There's also the teeny, tiny matter of money, & the lack thereof !
There are several GOP State orgs on the point of going bankrupt, & the Traitor isn't getting the big donors; they preferred the alternatives, & very clearly set their face against him.
You can't win the Presidency without plenty of Ad money; & right now the orange one doesn't have a pot to piss in, because he's toxic to most of the big donors.
Thus far one thing that's really helped Trump is the drop in support for Biden, that's creating far less alarm in GOP circles that they'll get trounced in 2024 and saved many of them making the hard choice to roll in behind Meatball, something that was on the cards going back 18 months.
Interestingly though because this election is about the challenger support for Biden will again solidify on the basis he's not Trump, exposing the relaxed thinking in GOP circles.
So we're left with two god awful candidates, both of whom would likely lose to a competent moderate Democrat or whatever passes for a moderate Republican. And yet Vs each other it's very close

The total subservience to the base meant that anyone that looked remotely moderate got ejected at the local level, see Cheney, or Christie, (neither of whom are what anyone normal would consider moderate, just less batshit crazy).
Local party membership are horrific at selecting candidates, just look at Truss FFS !!
It's all part of the far right MAGA/ERG playbook to pander to the LCD, & encourage these local Parties to expel non-believers, & purify the Party.

And they'll laud him for being clever enough to do so. It's basically an abusive relationship.TB63 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:25 am Trump’s Save America political action committee has paid nearly $37 million to more than 60 law firms and individual attorneys since January 2022, Federal Election Commission records show. That amounts to more than half of the PAC’s total expenditures, according to an Associated Press analysis of campaign finance filings, and represents a staggering sum compared to other political organizations.
The bulk of the Trump PAC money went to law firms that have defended Trump against a series of criminal charges or in civil lawsuits. Other attorneys paid with the contributions worked on behalf of Trump’s businesses, his children, former White House aides and employees of the ex-president.
So the self confessed multi billionaire is fleecing his cult followers out of they're hard earned money...

They don't have to be a moderate Republican in the guise of Eisenhower. They just have to pass for it, Niki Haley (aka Nancy Pelosi it would seem) likely beats Joe Biden.fishfoodie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 12:39 pmThat's your problem right there !Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 9:11 am So we're left with two god awful candidates, both of whom would likely lose to a competent moderate Democrat or whatever passes for a moderate Republican. Which at least presents a question for Trump, does he go with Haley as a running mate trying not to haemorrhage votes in the world of Soccer Mom?

A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MUST HAVE FULL IMMUNITY, WITHOUT WHICH IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM/HER TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. ANY MISTAKE, EVEN IF WELL INTENDED, WOULD BE MET WITH ALMOST CERTAIN INDICTMENT BY THE OPPOSING PARTY AT TERM END. EVEN EVENTS THAT “CROSS THE LINE” MUST FALL UNDER TOTAL IMMUNITY, OR IT WILL BE YEARS OF TRAUMA TRYING TO DETERMINE GOOD FROM BAD. THERE MUST BE CERTAINTY. EXAMPLE: YOU CAN’T STOP POLICE FROM DOING THE JOB OF STRONG & EFFECTIVE CRIME PREVENTION BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GUARD AGAINST THE OCCASIONAL “ROGUE COP” OR “BAD APPLE.” SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH “GREAT BUT SLIGHTLY IMPERFECT.” ALL PRESIDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETE & TOTAL PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY, OR THE AUTHORITY & DECISIVENESS OF A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WILL BE STRIPPED & GONE FOREVER. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE AN EASY DECISION. GOD BLESS THE SUPREME COURT!

You joke, but you know damn well Trump would have zero hesitation in sending out the goon squad. Revenge is burned into his soul.
When you listen to his rhetoric, he's damn well intending to turn the USA into a dystopian state, no doubt about. He hates, daily he lost the popular vote twice, he will literally use the government against anyone and everyone whose spoken out against him. It's a child's mind inside an addled, overweight, orange skin wearing, fuckwit who cannot accept anyone who defeats him..

Girl Guide group 6 could finish the fat fuck off, he struggles to walk down a gently sloped ramp.
Biden doesn't need plumbers, he needs carpenters, to go around the campaign trail, randomly installing stairs the loser has to climb.
He'll either stroke out, or give up campaigning.

Jackass is going to testify today.
He's going to try & bait the Judge into a mistrial, by repeating the self same horseshit he's been peddling on the Court house steps.
If he does trigger I hope the Judge also sticks the cunt in prison for contempt until Monday, & his lawyer can have an adjoining cell.

Meanwhile, in non-Trump news, the Governor of Texas has decided it's fine to ignore the Supreme Court when they make rulings he doesn't agree with.

Today could be a very expensive day for the loser.
Carroll's lawyers are asking for $12M for damages, but also for the Jury to levy punitive damages of a level that will stop him from further defaming her in the future.
Now after yesterdays "testimony", where he continued to defame her until the Judge stopped him, so it will be nice & fresh in their minds, I expect them to slap him back with a massive award. It's good too that he keeps on proclaiming how valuable he is too, because that's baiting the Jury, that they know to actually cause such a wealth individual to stop being a cunt, they need to hurt him.
I'm think in the $100M ballpark, & it might well happen today, as who the hell wants to come back on Monday to do more considerations, when it's just about coming up with a number.

And breathe.......Disgraced former president and adjudicated rapist Donald Trump has been ordered by the jury to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million for his lies about her while president and for the statements he made about her after the verdict in their last trial. Trump was previously ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in his last defamation trial. The jury awarded $18.3 million in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages.

Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!

Can he still be found in contempt, even after verdict? I thought he was told to STFU, hoping he sends a few more tweets out about the judge and assorted personnel.
I expect not, but that really would be the icing on the cake.

Now Carroll can retain a firm of lawyers full time, & anytime that her name passes the lips of the rapist scrote, they can start another action, & this & the previous case will hang over the CUNTS head like a radioactive sword of Damocles.
He'll lose again, & again, & the world will hear again & again what a piece of shit he is, & if he argues the facts, he's in contempt.

I think once the jury gives it's verdict the contempt pretty much ceases to be a thing, unless he's thick enough to go after the jury or Court staff.inactionman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 10:02 pm Can he still be found in contempt, even after verdict? If he repeats the cause of the case, i.e. the defamation again, then that's a whole new defamation, & justification for another case & another big damages payout.

And now next week Engeron want's to close out the Civil Fraud case, so if he appeals today's decision he has to lodge another bond, for the full amount of the Jury's damages award, that'd bring Carrolls awards to ~ $90M
Now the Civil case is ~$300M, which is a whole new level of pain, so I don't know how a rapist who is asset rich, but very cash poor comes up with damn near $400M worth of cash just for bonds so he can appeal cases he's certain to lose ?
Like I've said before; when the NY civil case drops, he & his companies loans become toxic to any bank, & they'll call in their loans, as they're always entitled to do so, & at that point he'll end up having the choice of bankruptcy, or owning his shithole in Florida, & that's all he'll own !

Logically it would only ever increase because to be back in court the previous damages demonstrably proved insufficient to make him stop lying about her

He was forced to put the money into a court controlled account. It will be dispersed to victim, or returned to him, after his appeals are satisfied.
So still in escrow until all appeals are satisfied., but first, to appeal this judgement he’ll have to lodge the $85m with the court. Lets see if he can raise that ....
You would expect for these sort of punitive damages , they may well get reduced, but this is going to cause him a whole world of pain

Interesting...
Let me ruin the suspense for everyone. Trump doesn't have an appeal.
I know the talking heads on TV (who have never tried a case or appealed a jury verdict) have to mention it. Here's why it isn't going to fly.
To have a meritorious appeal, you have to preserve a reversible error at the trial level. This is why you hire competent counsel. You need someone who actually knows the rules of evidence and procedure.
Alina Habba had no clue what was occurring throughout the trial. She not only failed to preserve any remote grounds for appeal, like a moron, she repeatedly and unintentionally waived them over and over.
For example, she kept saying "no objection" as exhibits were entered into evidence.
It appeared to me that she was saying that because she that's something she had heard real lawyers say before.
Unfortunately for Mr. Trump, what she was doing over and over was waiving his ability to appeal over those evidentiary issues. Because she is a moron who would rather *play* lawyer than do the research to *be* a lawyer.
There's no appeal here. And because people have asked me in the past, no, there is no such thing as an incompetent counsel defense in civil cases. That's for criminal matters.
