PR is pretty unusual in so far as we get huge desktop traffic but little mobile. People's media consumption has changed due to smartphones.
Xenforo started 10 yrs ago, but 3.0 is cutting edge stuff and allows phone posting easily and much more streaming content stability.
PR NOT gooooneeeeeeeeeeeee

Surely this place is better. Same vibe, no ads, better format no absolute nob running it who's a bad hair day away from his next innapropriate meltdown. It's the people who made PR, a very informative shark tank with a little bit of rugby during world cups and lions tours. This will do just fine.

Just quietly, this setup is cracking to use and looks great on mobile.
A massive disadvantage of staying on PR is it will have external moderation the whole thing is just a way of either driving traffic to the main site or getting content from the main site onto the bored.HighKingLeinster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 7:12 pmYeah have very little inclination to stay there. You folks have a choice to make (because realistically, no-one is going to ride 2 forums except the CP losers)
- back the efforts here
- or live under Jake and PR's ongoing yoke (or is that joke?) of "look at me" followed by "I...... errrrr, I mean PR... is pulling the rug"

Only just really started posting on the old one but this is a lot easier to read in mobile.
Without much rugby on the other forum turned into a lot of 3 guys arguing about politics - they may have all been the same poster

I stopped using Facebook a number of years ago and erased my login when they starting going creepy. Glad I did as they are now a disgusting, gossip peddling sewer, anything for profit.

Yes, there was a particularly unpleasant ’bot’ infected the board.Monkey Magic wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:04 am Only just really started posting on the old one but this is a lot easier to read in mobile.

With the amount of people who registered here, it looks pretty healthy for the near future once rugby kicks off again. However over the long term, unless new people join in, we're doomed to see numbers dwindling. It probably would be a good idea for the front page to prominently mention rugby so that at least it starts getting indexed somewhere. Also, not sure if that's easily possible with the current software, but a news/blog section would be neat too. Nothing big or regularly updated, but taking out the banter, we have a good few people on here who know their rugby, their club, etc. If every now and then someone felt like pushing a long post as a more visible blog entry, whether it's predictions on the impact of new rules, a random match review, tournament predictions or random team history, match/tourism report from an away game, that would make the place a little more than a hangout.

I can take a look at what can be done, things like sticky topics are built in so easy to do, but part of what made the PR community so lively was the diversity, banter, shitfights, spitefulness and the occasional rugby conversation too. I really dont like sub forums, and i dont think many here do, and members do have the opportunity to subscribe to rugby threads so they see those front and center. Another idea might be to create a group of rugby afficionado's 1 or 2 from each country who own their own thread about their country? I think the groups idea has certainly taken off so maybe this is just another group? Happy to take thoughts on it.
Yeah, not a big fan of subforums either, and wouldn't want to kill the eclectic topic spread, but I feel like a blog style section with articles from members would be neat and may, over time, make the place a bit more than a small community of exiles. Whether it's easily doable with the software, I don't have a clue I'm afraid.ASMO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:58 amTNT wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:52 am With the amount of people who registered here, it looks pretty healthy for the near future once rugby kicks off again. Users not banned from PR could occasionally pop over and post "Hey guys. I just found this other great forum here".TNT wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:52 am With the amount of people who registered here, it looks pretty healthy for the near future once rugby kicks off again. I know sweet FA about google indexing, ranking, crawl bots and the like, but if there's anything simple that can be done under the bonnet that could draw people searching for rugby chat I'd vote for it in preference to sub-forums or artificial journo-blogs on here.
In all the years I was lurking, reading and posting on PR I don't think I went to the main site once except by accident. I get my rugby news and analysis from elsewhere.
A forum is for informal insights and opinion. And the craig.

I will be looking over layouts as i go on, the good thing about this particular design is that it works brilliantly on all platforms, especially mobile and tablets but i am sure some minor tweaks can be made.
You can in the short term just downsize it to 90 or 80% in your browser, just hold down the alt button and then use the mousewheel to resize.

Sure - and thanks. I didn't mean to suggest this was a priority or even a necessity. It was just a thought about one possible way to get a bit of visibility v the other ones suggested.
Haven’t used a pc to view forums for ten years or so , all on phoneASMO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 12:28 pm I will be looking over layouts as i go on, the good thing about this particular design is that it works brilliantly on all platforms, especially mobile and tablets but i am sure some minor tweaks can be made.

Same with porn
Nice, read only access for anonymous users (Bots)?
Also, I hope you haven't had anyone over here pissing their pants about GDPR, IIRC that was just one of the cryptos on PR.
The Google search thing can be very straight forward. An example would be a place. Say Bristol. Google Bristol and while you can go under the bonnet to loads of metrics Google also has a bit 'People also ask'. My mate was setting up a site in Spain and the most frequent thing asked about the place then was 'where is....' so how site became Where is.....
Very crude but very effective as he went to the top of the searches

nothing to stop you uploading a html page external to the CMS that could serve as SEO bait. Or just install WordPress or concrete5 (user friendly for this basic purpose but flexible enough if you wanted to do more) to something like notplanetrugby.com/blog. Just run the install script and put a second CMS there.ASMO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:58 amTNT wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:52 am With the amount of people who registered here, it looks pretty healthy for the near future once rugby kicks off again. I think that’s a sound approach ASMO. It’s easy to overstretch and underdeliver.
I like the germ of the idea TNT? posted. There are a number of people here quite capable of writing an erudite or amusing article, and plenty who could help edit it. Just a thought to store away for if and when you look at this, but if the website won’t conveniently handle a front end a separate blog might work. Wordpress or similar. Again, there are lots of people here who could help build up traffic. I’m no genius at any of this but I’m happy to help with an article or three.
I’ll maybe copy this to “Suggestions “ for filing purposes.

Was this above mentioned Planet Rugby thing popular?
Never heard of it.
