I really enjoyed game, there was some good play (in amongst some pretty ordinary stuff), and what I do enjoy about Mitre 10 cup anyway is watching the younger brigade coming through, there a few who look like they maybe alright at Super level, and although he already there I thought Fidow stood up a bit for Wgton, was surprised how much Savea impressed me, he never had a problem with being lazy or anything but I thought his workrate was pretty impressive .

Funny watching that yesterday I was waiting for the crowd to play silly buggers, not that they did or have done last while ( so don't get upset) , but I read something about Alan Hewson the other day and remembered why I used to enjoy Canterbury getting beaten immensely . Something old codgers of me and probably NZer's age tend to always remember.

We had no right to win that, but Wellington only themselves to blame. They had every opportunity to ice that game. Is JGB the white Cameron?

Burke an instant improvement on Cameron and must be persisted with.
This, absolutely this.
Been at a 50th, blimey, memories. :wtf:

But really, you're going to take that pathetic excuse for a win. Well of course you will, you're a fil;thy Cantab. Without Bachop, though, Canterbury are grovelling toast. How embarrassing is it that you have to rely on the worst player in the comp to win, with an intercept no less.

Well done!
We did bring Cameron on to balance out the level at first five. And yes, I’ll take a golden point win, or any other fucking type of win at this point.

The crowds back in my day really loved to put it into Bob Lendrum too.

My memory is fading but didn’t Hewson wear gloves and pantyhose to protect against the cold at one stage?

Seems to ring a bell, but that may well be just my dislike for him showing through.

Tasman will win easily.

Waikato however, they don't like swimming in a cold swimming pool (the weather is gash in Invergiggle)

I would usually go for the Mako in this match-up, as they have been playing an entertaining brand of footy for quite a while now but Harbour are not letting them play that game atm...Harbour need a nickname - The Not Nots? Inbetweeners? Bridge Wankers?

Tasman get a consolation try in injury time and leave town well beaten. 40 ~ 24

Final score 40-24.

Next up, Otago's first Shield defence against Hawke's Bay.

I recall he wore fingerless gloves at one stage. Was in the day before internet so some of the Cantabrians did't have forums to go crook about him, so they just acted pretty shit instead, if the had a forum like this they may of just came in here and pretended they had an opinion that counted. Stu Wilson told me he didn't believe it when the ABs had a so called home test at Lancaster Park and couldn't get to sleep the night before with all these tossers standing outside the AB's hotel chanting Hewson's a wanker etc. Not one of the prouder times for so called AB supporters.

What a try from Fakatava! Came off the back of Josh Ioane missing touch from a penalty kick for touch.

Yep, great solo try.

He's been strong on both sides of the ball today.

Huge moment consolidated by the try. A man down, time running out and needing to chase the game - it’s a tough spot for Otago.

Lucky not to get a red card for that.

Haven't been overly impressed with this ref so far.

No complaints with that call.

The shield looks set to rack up some more frequent flyer points. It is certainly getting about this year.

This is a thrashing. Well done Hawkes Bay, thoroughly deserved win and they backed up from a great win against Canterbury last weekend!
