That's a pretty ridiculous comment mate, there is nothing facist about knowing what is entertaining and what is not. That was an ambitious idea but ultimately it was a boring shitshow for the vast majority of the time. Only saved by the last half hours light show and a Canadian singer.

It's not really something I've ever poked my nose into, but we have a number of specialist rowing courses set up as part of other waterway workings and I think a lot of schools have programs, as there are school competitions running at times. I see that in the parents' FB postsHugo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 9:55 pm Kiwis, how strong of a rowing culture does NZ have? I get the impression that it is second only to rugby in terms of its tradition in NZ sporting circles.
I was actually going to pose this question a while back but given it's the Olympics I suppose it's as good a time as any.

Did it get better? I gave it up and went for a walk in freezing fog for enjoyment.Blackmac wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:24 pm

I drink and I forget things.
It's huge here in the Waikato but we have the Karapiro world cup course in our back yard. Getting selected for Maadi Cup (secondary schools national champs) is better than making the first XV rugby side in some schools.Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:49 pmIt's not really something I've ever poked my nose into, but we have a number of specialist rowing courses set up as part of other waterway workings and I think a lot of schools have programs, as there are school competitions running at times. After embarking a lengthy journey along the River Seine, which took nearly 30 minutes, the Olympic flag was delivered by a mysterious masked figure and hoisted into the air at Place du Trocadero.
However, eagled-eyed viewers on social media notched the flag, which donned the five Olympic rings, was upside down.
My Dad was in the Mt Albert Grammar rowing 8s that contested and I believe won the Maadi Cup just after the war [/end of boast]Enzedder wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 11:08 pmIt's huge here in the Waikato but we have the Karapiro world cup course in our back yard. London came close to toppling Sydney.
Close.
Close.
The opening ceremony is always the Eurovision part of the games, always too long and often baffling.
I though last night was the Tarantino film of opening ceremonies, it needed a good editor, but it did show Paris off, it was a love letter to the city, a long one - the numerous headless Marie Antionettes appearing with a metal band tied to the building was quite something.

The French far right and a few more like space Karen are up in arms about some specific parts of the show and that's a good thing.Blackmac wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:24 pm

Olympics always makes me miss Ireland's Call and his obsessing over Bolt's penis + it's adventures.
Commentator couldn’t resist describing one of their dives as sizzling.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
There was a piece in one of the papers this week about how everyone’s obsession with Linfords lunchbox gave him real mental health issues.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:17 am Olympics always makes me miss Ireland's Call and his obsessing over Bolt's penis + it's adventures.

There was a documentary on Linford a couple of days ago, it’s very much worth a watch on the iPlayer. There is a section where he watches back an interview with Saint and Greavsie where he’s trying to explain why he hates women coming up to him and grabbing his penis and how this racist caricature was very upsetting, these two old white men just didn’t get it which made him break down in front of them, this was repeated watching it back with his children, who were also in tears because of it

The Rugby on TV website has the semis starting at 2.30? I’m finding it all very confusingtabascoboy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 12:43 pmLooks like they're only showing highlights of the 7s placement matches later, then the semi-finals live after

For some reason I thought the semis were later, but yes they must be showing the semis live and the placement games highlights/recordings straight afterwardsSlick wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 12:45 pmThe Rugby on TV website has the semis starting at 2.30? Extremely poor effort from the BBC. They have four general channels and the red button, rugby isn't a nothing sport in the UK. I cannot work out if the Sevens is being shown other than the final. Fuck knows why they can't just live broadcast all of it.
Does anyone have a dodgy stream?
Sharks are kicking off so probably going to watch that instead now. Currie Cup >>> Olympics.
