Looks like a deliberate tactic for the 24 yard ball Watt bowls, and the Umpires have sided with the aussies. Looks like cheating to me.

So long as you bowl from in front of the umpire, it is entirely legitimate. It’s an increasingly useful tactic for spinners in an era of big bats (I use it myself)

I think it has been a necessary approach as Leach wasn't a good enough long term spin option and with Broad and Anderson retiring and Archer and Wood being made of biscuit they need a good pool of pace bowlers.

It is curious they haven't taken the same approach with openers. Lawrence isn't an opener and isn't the long term option to replace Duckett or Crawley either.
