I find US elections quite entertaining but the sheer number of attack ads on Trump I see on social media, Reddit, this thread, the language used by the likes of the BBC etc., to describe his events, leads me to believe that both sides are as bad as each other when it comes to spreading shit about their opponent.

Trump is a massive karnt, and there is no lack of ammo to throw punches at him tbf. But I feel like we've been here before, and all the Democrat-suppprting "I'm so much smarter than MAGA types" banter can end badly.

The tone of their criticisms of Trump are far different from 2016, when Hillary called his supporters "deplorable", whereas Harris comes across as a far more decent and human person, not looking down on them in the same way.

I take it you don't actually follow US politics? You haven't heard Harris state her policies every opportunity she gets? It doesn't get the sound bites in the distant mass media and social media of course so for people not following the boring stuff of what is actually said over the length of an interview or rally gets skipped by.

Whereas Trump as always gets headlines because they're easy targets, or perhaps what a lot of people don't realise is that the troll farms deliberately farm exactly the theme you're parroting.

That's the issue though... his appeal is the hatred he articulates.

We forget how complex an emotion it is and how deeply appealing it can be... I've mentioned before something along the lines of that appeal being an outlet of sorts for all the anger and displacement being felt by those who are at the mercy of shifts in the wider economy. Most of us in the 'West'... closely aligned with the US politically and unfortunately, culturally, are more than familiar with the massive shift in wealth that has occurred over the last 30 or so years. We're all swept along with it... neocapitalism, economic rationalism, market driven blah blah.

Trump gives a voice to that huge slab of US life that is watching its comfortable complacency ripped away and he provides labels for the targets.
