The Lockheed P-38 Lightening bears a close resemblance.

Correct - sorry but I had zero idea what you referred to, again, just too cryptic for me.
Suppose you know that some Fokker pilots did a runner in one of these to England after they had been conquered ?

I was brought up on these stories. Both my Gran'dad and Dad were RAF pilots...form Spitfires to Lightning F.6's and anything in between.

Don't know why, but I have always loved the A6 Intruder. Probably the tear drop aesthetics... would love to own one.

Yes. Would have been 5 or 11.

I was with (Sqn Ldr) Dennis Brooks at the w/e. He served time in charge of the Lightning training at Binbrook so, conceivably, could have known your dad.

My Dad spent most of his life to retirement as a commercial pilot with BOAC and then Aer Lingus but everytime I would visit him on the flightdeck, when I was a kid, he did look as though he could do the job in his sleep . Different breed of people.

Whisper it quietly but most commercial pilots these days can't fly (relative)! My senior cap/trainer friend had his own light aircraft because he believed it was how he kept his flying skills and reactions working.

BOAC: VC-10s I assume?

And 707s, 747's....... He left there in '74 just as they were becoming BA to eventually fly Jumbos for AL.

Fudge sake - I’m not naturally a jealous person, but I’m green with envy at someone being taught to fly by their dad.

I regularly fly the Harrier, the F18, F16, Mirage2000, P51, A4e, A Bell Huey Helicopter, A Gazelle, A Magnificient 8, a A10 and a Russian Blackshark.
You all could too, DCS world chaps.
Stick a VR headset on and get something to make your seat rumble and you are there.
It is just fantastic.

Yeah the film has my money already. Volleyball scene but with women is the kind of politically correct modern take on a sequel that I can really get behind.
Will also admit that, much like cars, all planes seem kinda the same now to me and I’m not up to speed on modern stuff at all.

The A10 is an absolute marvel of an aircraft, the amount of weopens it can carry is just mindblowing. Not just the gun..Mavericks, Rockets, Clusterbombs, GBUs (general purpose bombs). Just loads and loads of death. There is nothing like dropping CBU96s in CCRP mode. It can also fly for days and is a full on loitering aircraft (even without external fuel tanks).
Another one is the Harrier. The US Marines upgrades to it (think they made the wings bigger and added more weapons stations) make it a rather special little plane.
The F18 is something else though, it can drop lazer guided Bombs on a tiny target from another country (sixty miles away) if you have it flying high and fast enough and use the lightening pod. Landing it on an aircraft carrier is just the greatest feeling too.
Some planes may be slightly boring but the shit they can drop and fire and spit these, all those modern weapons is just scary.
DCS is basically a combat simulator. It really mqkes you want to master all the systems from Radar to weapons to navigation and communication, systems. All modelled exactly to the real aircraft (unless one of two systems are top secret)..
