Split in two, or split into many states?
The Governor (?) of Texas made a comment on those lines a few weeks ago. Would they have a plebiscite in each state to decide which nation to join? That would be entertaining. Like the partition of India but with more guns.

On a more positive note, Trump's last stab at the environment, to auction off oil drilling rights in Alaska"s Artic National Wildlife Refuge, was a massive failure. Original auction was for 1.56m acres, which got cut by 457,000 acres, and the sole bidder was an Alaska state agency, so it essentially bought its own product. For $14m, they were hoping to raise $1.8bn.

And, of course, the Court challenge by sane people, plus Biden is against development in the Refuge.

I was thinking that myself, imagine what would happen if Trump went and pardoned the lot

There's still going to be another round of those I'll bet before he gets moved out of the office. I wonder if he'll attend the inauguration? I doubt the Dems will be able to get him impeached prior...

Going to have to go shopping today. Run out of popcorn.

Apologies to our local Yank members if it hurts your feelings. Your country is a shithole. Very rich, very advanced technologically, but unfortunately inhabited by fucknuts to the nth degree. And the worst is yet to come, I think. Oh well, karma is a bitch I guess. This was tiddlywinks to what you've created in other countries over the last 8 decades.

The NYT is apparently suggesting (behind a paywall) that Trump is planning to pardon himself.

He'd better hurry up on that, then: impeachment or the 25th may spike his guns.

The one I was thinking of was Allen West, Rep chairman in Texas. Back in December he suggested a union of law-abiding states that will abide by the constitution.

Given the wingnuts involved, they'd probably favor a constitution that re-introduces slavery, & removes universal suffrage.

This guy is clearly one of the Antifa plants, whose actions Trump praised so strongly. As I understand it, Soros paid for the tattoos and Auschwitz staff member hoodies. Trump might just be so Deep State he's running an insurrection against himself.

We're into 5D chess territory here, folks.

As they start to identify the people involved in the insurrection, it turns out one of them is a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates

Image

On 14 December, Evans, a Republican, was sworn in as a lawmaker in the West Virginia house of delegates. On Wednesday, Evans reportedly filmed himself and others storming the Capitol, shouting: “We’re in! Keep it moving, baby!” as Trump supporters flooded into the building.

The video, which Evans posted online, has since been deleted, but USA Today reported that Evans, who was wearing a black helmet, proceeded to enter the Capitol Rotunda. As he did so, Evans shouted: “Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!”, according to the Washington Post.

Since then, more than 26,000 people have signed a petition demanding Evans be removed from office, while Democratic party leaders in West Virginia said Evans should resign and “be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”.

I'm guessing he is going to be in a whole heap of shit when he gets back to West Virginia

You have to love good Sci Fi authors - they have been predicting a Coastal Urban vs Christendom Rural split in the US for decades. It doesn't look like Sci Fi now...

Re the Police - the lone guy with the Asp should have stood his ground at the top of the stairs and used it to hold them - he was on the radio for backup. The real failure was not sending a group to back him up - a squad of 4 more with shields could have held that stairwell for ages.

There are about 500 people I'd blame before I'd blame the one guy with 15 rounds & hundreds of people running at him; & I'd start with everyone of the cunts in the White House; & after them the GOP, & then the top level of DoJ, etc, etc, etc

Rural can't survive without urban and it also seems most red can't survive without blue. I saw a better map that explained this, but this seems to also show it ...

Interesting for those who cry bloody murder at the thought of 'socialism'...
Another part of the explanation is easier to discern. The reddest states on that map at the top—Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, New Mexico, Maine—have exceptionally high poverty rates and thus receive disproportionately large shares of federal dollars. Through a variety of social programs, the federal government disburses hundreds of billions of dollars each year to maintain a “safety net” intended to help the neediest among us. Consider, for example, the percentage of each state’s residents who get “food stamps” through the federal government’s SNAP program.

Don't get me wrong - I wasn't blaming that sole officer - he was let down by his training and leadership.

Let down by his training? What was he meant to do there other than start emptying a magazine into the crowd?

I thought he did fine delaying them for about as long as he could whilst giving ground.

He should never have been in a position of being on his own - whoever was directing the "defence" was useless.

In the footage I saw, he could have easily laid into the crowd with the asp and given them pause. It's the very basic application of a baton in defence - likely he wasn't trained properly in it's use.

Don't forget, this building was designed when government buildings were still being attacked - it is full of natural choke-points for defence.

Righto. I'll bow to your martial arts expertise, but I still have a sneaky suspicion that he have got his head caved in after that pause if he started laying into them with the asp .

That's my point - fear is the driver in mob situations. The bit where he was at the top of the stairs was the crux. If he's have laid out that twat in the hat who was trying to intimidate him, he'd have a greater chance of holding them back.

Of course, it's a very fluid situation and I wasn't there, I'm just outlining the methodology. Once he gave up the stairwell, it was over without reinforcement

I have done some riot shield training with a mate who is in a Prison response team - they use the "Roman" shield tactic - once you take out one you push forward and use the bottom rim to smash them a few times on the way through. The following line uses their boots in the same way
