Fascinating stuff. Luckily I paid for my son to do a degree in IT and he's now an IT Support Manager - so, whilst I'm not completely IT illiterate, I have no need to understand what that is all about.That would definitely come under a task that I'd be delegating.
The reality is they just have decided they can't; instead of sitting themselves in front of the right teacher

One of the community activities my former employer used to do; & I thought was a really great idea was; run evening classes for older people; & introduce them to wonder that was the Internet; & then use that as a gateway drug to computers in general.
If you sit a bloke who was a carpenter in front of a few youtube videos of the best way to do consistent mitre joints; & then point him to carpenters forum; or do the same for a woman who prides herself on her quiche crust .... you introduce people who have a massive amount of interest & enthusiasm, into a brave new world.
It's the same idea as Men's Sheds etc; you allow people to come together, & share their knowledge, common love for a subject. You make them realize that they can still contribute, regardless of their age; in fact, their age is an asset.
It's great seeing someone after a lifetimes work, showing a teenager how to use a lathe
