I believe so - rumoured to have called a bunch of people in the wee hours of the morning (probably drunk) bitching and moaning - it's alleged that during at least one of those calls he admitted to leaking the story.

She can appeal all she wants.. I actually don't think they will let her appeal as politically they don't want to piss off Ireland anymore than they already have. How to turn a good European into a pissed off European..... keep needling them unnecessarily.
There are bigger issues in the EU at the moment so I think she will be told to fuck off.
She's pretty arrogant. I think she will appeal
She will be out of the portfolio soon enough..... her successor will have to take up the baton.
Hogan is trade commissioner now, and he won't back an appeal.

Your point about pissing off Ireland is well made, especially with Paschal now leader of the Eurogroup of Finance ministers.

I was talking with Daughter #1 last night who is a tax lawyer in New York.
She read the judgement yesterday and said it was a total slam dunk. She reckons the chances of the commission appealing are close to zero as there are no grounds.

Her opinion of Ms Vestiger is quite similar to mine actually but when 29 year old women use the 'C' word 4 times in one sentence it doesn't seem so uncouth as when a man says it.

Talk that the Commission are planning on using article 116 of Lisbon to get their way on taxation using qualified majority voting:
Article 116

(ex Article 96 TEC)

Where the Commission finds that a difference between the provisions laid down by law, regulation or administrative action in Member States is distorting the conditions of competition in the internal market and that the resultant distortion needs to be eliminated, it shall consult the Member States concerned.

If such consultation does not result in an agreement eliminating the distortion in question, the European, Parliament and the Council, acting in accordance with the ordinary legislative procedure, shall issue the necessary directives. Any other appropriate measures provided for in the Treaties may be adopted.
However the Irish government was bright enough to get the following added in as a protocol to the Lisbon Treaty before we voted the second time :
TAXATION
Article 2
Nothing in the Treaty of Lisbon makes any change of any kind,
for any Member State, to the extent or operation of the
competence of the European Union in relation to taxation.
Can't see how the Commission can wiggle out of that.

Why do people make the mistake of underestimating the political savviness of the Irish.
It's the National sport FFS....

There's a reasonable debate to be had about Apple's (and others) practice of warehousing monies until they can wangle a better deal on tax but that's not the question she sought to ask.

Agreed, she went political from her very first press conference, and now is staying very low indeed. She hasn't the balls to do one now.

It's US tax law that allows that. It's not really anything to do with us.

Agreed but companies should pay tax somewhere.
It'll be a race to the bottom otherwise.

And that's the point.

If countries want to piss & moan about tax rates in other Countries, they need to take a look at their own, & sit down like adults, & agree a consensus across nations. Start with the G7, & put massive pressure on real tax havens, & stop them laundering money; then other Countries will believe their argueing in good faith.

At the start of the saga of the EU complaining about our corporation tax rates, someone did an analysis of Frances effective tax rates for the massive French companies; & quelle surprise; they were taxing them at effective lower rates than our rate.

I'm all for harmonization; but Politicians can't expect to put their fingers on the scales, & then bitch about what other Countries are doing.

1 death, 75 new cases in our county (pop, approx 100,000) over the last 3 days.

And there are still people here who think it's all a hoax.

Seems to be a bit of both.

Town has been unbelievably busy - during the day - all of this week. People are clearly bored and listless and eager to do something.

People are also beginning to have more house parties, etc.

It just gives the morons more ammo for their stupid Tory jibes. Yes, it's a fairly small group who are especially prevalent on Twitter, but I don't think it's the right way to go about things. It's just joining in with the idiots.

strikes me as kind of petty to be honest by Leo ; you'd think he'd have better things to be doing than trolling SF fcukwits - then again twitter really is a more user friendly jacks wall from Transporting with just your own shite to write with

Leo would have been better off responding to the fashion shoes tweet with something witty/acerbic, instead of going after Boylan on an issue that no one was paying huge attention to

I'm all for going after the shinner twitter mob, but it's important to pick your targets/themes correctly

On a day when a republican scobie has just been convicted of murdering a guard, I'd have been referencing Gerry McCabe, slab Murphy, Paul Quinn etc

Missed opportunity
