Saffers Playing Abroad Thread
Quite correct. If that is what you want from your 12, he is the perfect pick. He was one of the standouts in our RWC 2019 campaign.sorCrer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 8:37 amDe Allende has been playing quite well up north. Watched several games and he gets across the gain line and does actually pass a bit now too.

Is Houtie still alive?
I don't think his wings were starved of the ball at all. Look at how we performed in some of the SR matches in 2020:
Beat the Highlanders 42-20 with 2 tries by Mapimpi and 1 by Fassi
Lost to the Hurricane, try by Tambwe
Beat the Rebels with AE as captain, trty by AE, two by Mapimpi, one by Tambwe
Beat the Reds, tries by Am and Tambwe
Beat the Stormers, tries by Fassi and Mapimpi
That is not a team with a 12 who can't pass.

Please don't start this. Vokket.
Yes, just very busy with work (Covid related stuff) and another medical cause he supports. I think the two things are consuming every spare minute he has.

- Elton to start, Morne back up.
- Nche in for Beast, Kitshoff to start though.
- Van Staden in for Flouw
- RG Snyman only just started running so a fourth lock needed.
- Akker as backup for Bongi and Marx
- one of the Dup twins in for PSDT if he's still crocked. Pref Dan to cover 8.
backs to remain unchanged from RWC squad.
Lions tests are attritional games, high stakes, high pressure just like a RWC final. Not a time for bolters or adventurous selection. if there is too much pressure from political quarters to include more POC, I would widen the squad to include Penxe, Simelane, Notshe and ?
Is his place kicking up to scratch?

I'm no fan of Steyn, but yeah, without Pollard we are screwed at fly.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 7:48 am- Elton to start, Morne back up.

Nyakane?
Van Staden must get a run, he has been absolutely on fire.
We have Etzebeth, De Jager, Mostert at lock. Schickerling perhaps? Lewies?

I have no idea, haven't seen him play in years. He's been starting for Montpellier recently at 10, and goalkicking was always one of his strengths.
It's just an outside shot for him I guess, but the following list doesn't fill me with hope:
Elton Jantjies
Morne Steyn
Willemse
Curwin Bosch
Rob du Preez
Come on, give it a shot, add Goosen and put in your order of preference from 1 to 6.assfly wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 8:10 amI have no idea, haven't seen him play in years. He's been starting for Montpellier recently at 10, and goalkicking was always one of his strengths.

Agree, Goose haven't played any rugby for ages. Naas Botha maybe a better option then him.
Not beyond the realms of possibility. Haven't seen him play in a while so not sure where his kicking and passing is at the moment.
But my worry would be that he'll be up against a master technician in the form of Sexton who would exploit this weakness (same goes for any of our 10s bar Pollard).

I think Elton would run OK behind a competitive pack and a world cup winning backline outside him. Would go some way to shutting up the minister of sports if he starts gaaning aan about more colour in the team. Also having Morne on the bench to come on and close out tight games is a big plus, the guys as steady as a rock still.

Pollard will be back by the time the Lions arrive. Hopefully with a month of rugby behind him.
Junkies needs a game plan that suites his style.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:29 am I think Elton would run OK behind a competitive pack and a world cup winning backline outside him. When he was at the Stomps he had a hugely dominant pack in front of him and JDV outside of him. He was kak because he can't kick every ball away
I hope so. Even just a couple of games behind him would be enough.sunnybanana wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:34 am Pollard will be back by the time the Lions arrive. Hopefully with a month of rugby behind him.
But it still a problem position for us that Rassie needs to start looking at.

Yep and, outrageously, Morne really is the next best bet we have right now.assfly wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:40 amI hope so.
