Correct - sorry but I had zero idea what you referred to, again, just too cryptic for me.The sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:39 amFokker G.I....... made its debut in the mid '30SYeeb wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:27 amThe sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:09 am Thats an easy one...... I was brought up on these stories. Both my Gran'dad and Dad were RAF pilots...form Spitfires to Lightning F.6's and anything in between.Yeeb wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:47 amCorrect - sorry but I had zero idea what you referred to, again, just too cryptic for me.
Suppose you know that some Fokker pilots did a runner in one of these to England after they had been conquered ?
Mad Russians...Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:12 am Possibly the oddest looking plane ever

I was with (Sqn Ldr) Dennis Brooks at the w/e. He served time in charge of the Lightning training at Binbrook so, conceivably, could have known your dad.

If he was there in the '60s he sure would. My Dad is 90 now and the head isin't the best but I must ask my Mum who doesn't forget anything...... particularly if she was riding a bloke called Brooks in the '60s !!!Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:39 amYes. Your dad and grandad lucky to fly at a time when planes were so very interesting. The sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:48 am If he was there in the '60s he sure would. Sad what happened to that :Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:46 amFind the air effects stuff all fascinating from the ugly (hovercrafts and the above) to the impressive later ekran (A-90) to, possibly the most beautiful plane ever:
My Dad spent most of his life to retirement as a commercial pilot with BOAC and then Aer Lingus but everytime I would visit him on the flightdeck, when I was a kid, he did look as though he could do the job in his sleep . Different breed of people.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:51 amYour dad and grandad lucky to fly at a time when planes were so very interesting. The sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:48 am If he was there in the '60s he sure would. Whisper it quietly but most commercial pilots these days can't fly (relative)! My senior cap/trainer friend had his own light aircraft because he believed it was how he kept his flying skills and reactions working. The sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:05 pm My Dad spent most of his life to retirement as a commercial pilot with BOAC and then Aer Lingus but everytime I would visit him on the flightdeck, when I was a kid, he did look as though he could do the job in his sleep . And 707s, 747's....... He left there in '74 just as they were becoming BA to eventually fly Jumbos for AL.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:15 pmWhisper it quietly but most commercial pilots these days can't fly (relative)! BOAC: VC-10s I assume?
I forgot BOAC went back to 707s after runways were all extended. The sun god wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:24 pm And 707s, 747's....... He left there in '74 just as they were becoming BA to eventually fly Jumbos for AL.
He thought me to fly when I was a teenager....

You all could too, DCS world chaps.
Stick a VR headset on and get something to make your seat rumble and you are there.
It is just fantastic.
It was just in a little Cessna 172 borrowed from a pilot mate of his in the Iona flying club at the back of Dublin airport.... it was all very tame at the time.

If it was a Yank pilot, you’re lucky he didn’t strafe your unit.Jock42 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 4:19 pmWe had an A10 fly a few feet above us seconds before a show of force on the Taliban.
