Yeah, i can imagine this is a tough watch for the neutrals. I'm enjoying it, though.

Scottish set piece very poor today. Poor physicality, poor org and not competing on oppo ball

White was the only one who could have formed a ruck foe Scotland earlier enough, just not interested like the better scummies are

Scotland doing their best efforts to lose to a last minute try at the mo.

This could be a red for multiple reasons.

Maybe not as bad as first seen. It's still surely a high shoulder charge, bracing himself or not.

He knows exactly what he’s doing but I reckon he’s standing his ground. White rolling around Sexton style

Really enjoying the good 45 seconds there of the co commentators whipping themselves into a frenzy over what is actually a perfect example of a player planting his feet and not at all trying to take the player out. Really funny stuff.

You can't just stick your shoulder into an opponent

You can brace for impact if someone is running straight at you without the ball

Stands his ground but clearly raises his profile to get in the way of White, who was edging to try go around

True. White had loads of time to step but just ran into him. ?

First bit of patience and good decision making over a number of phases by either side in this game, and Scotland score a well worked try. Deserved.

Deserved, but christ they've laboured for it.

Perhaps if he spent less time edging and more time trying to actually change direction in any way he might be more successful

He doen't change his line, but I really dislike this "bracing for impact" where you are presenting a tucked arm an shoulder into someone's chest.

PT would be harsh, but not entirely comfortable with it being play on either :?:

I don't mind them call. Becomes a proper grey area if there's head contact though.

Ever so slightly turns so that contact is made with his upper arm and away from his head.

It's not a tackle situation, he is the vulnerable player with someone sprinting hard directly at him and given he has few legal options here, allowing him to brace a tiny bit to protect himself is well within "rugby incident" status.

Head contact becomes far more likely if you don't let the vulnerable player turn their body like that.

How many pens have Scotland conceded?

So can we say Pendergast braced yesterday.

There are things that Gilchrist can't do that we need our second rows to do but he defends the maul very well.

No, because Prendergast a) moved across illegally to block and b) put the shoulder into the jaw too

His was a deliberate illegal action.

It's more like how the laws allow ball carriers to brace for contact in exactly the same way. It's just common sense

That is the worst kick I've ever seen, and I've seen Ben Youngs play over 100 times for England. What a let off.
