This could be a red for multiple reasons.

It's not a tackle situation, he is the vulnerable player with someone sprinting hard directly at him and given he has few legal options here, allowing him to brace a tiny bit to protect himself is well within "rugby incident" status.

His was a deliberate illegal action.
It's more like how the laws allow ball carriers to brace for contact in exactly the same way. It's just common sense
