Re: NFL and NCAA football
Will be the first Superbowl I haven't watched in a decade. Cyclone Gabrielle said 'NO'.

Re: Official NPR Weather Thread
Power out as of 11pm last night. Current predicted resolution for the outage on our road is 21:00pm. On Friday.
I don't think the chook eggs in my incubator are going to make it. Concerned about my freezer full of fish bait now too.

Not sure our Northland posters can post as they are getting strong winds and power outages. Wind and rain have arrived in the Tron but just a Wellington breeze at this stage

Re: The 'alternative' music thread
Does anyone know any stuff similar to Devil's Spoke by Laura Marling?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDJPRRUH07k
It's sort of sinister folk music I guess. The minutiae of genres like metalcore are more my forte, so I don't really know where to start looking for this. She's got a few other ...

Re: Official NPR Weather Thread
Fishing isn't quite that good any more, though it tends to get better the further north and more remote you get. In saying that, the last time I took the kayak out and didn't manage to get at least a one days feed was 14 months ago.

The sprog and I are heading up to the winterless north next week, or what's left of it by then.
A bit of fresh Southern-long-pig for restocking the larder is always welcome after a patch of inclement weather.

Re: Official NPR Weather Thread
Cyclone Gabrielle has us lined up - the waikato River is already at near flood levels from ongoing weather but this one could be the final straw - and with it very strong winds. Somehow, I think the east coast is the danger zone though

Re: The ravages of time....
Playing league again this season after 4 years away traveling (and 4 years playing rugby before that), and the pain in my hips and knees driving home from the games is actually worse than the pain of dislocating my shoulder a couple of times on the pitch.
That is mother nature telling you to ...

Re: Your top 5 favourite sports?
I'd never heard of that, but after watching a bit on YouTube - wtf?? Utterly mental!
I thought it was just going to be something with a bit of quirky-entertainment-factor at first, and to be fair, the first match I watched was Kyrgyzstan thrashing someone, and that was really all it ...

5th is too hard to pick, but I will go with Kok Boru (headless goat polo), simply because a match between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was the single best sporting event I've seen live.

I was hoping to try dog in Cambodia (along with tarantula), but unfortunately circumstances prevented me from getting a chance. So yeah, I would have no problem eating dog.

Re: Worst Commentators/Pundits
There are so many bad ones (and not just confined to rugby - the NRL is even worse).
I always hated Keith Quinn growing up, but it's gotten to the point I would almost accept him back.
If I had to choose one that grinds my gears, it would probably be Willie Lose.

Re: The Doom/Sludge Metal Thread. All Slow, All Low.
While we're doing obscure stuff, I've always loved this tune from the early '90s. Got it from this actual sampler CD as well, don't think they ever made an album...

For a sampler that CD has some early tracks from some serious quality bands. One ...
