No one talks up average players like England, but still, this is against a scratch team with 14 players and Eddie is in charge

1). Kill Jack fucking Nowell for shitting that penalty up.
2). Kill Johnny Hill for dropping that.
Oh, and Nowell was running in treacle for that try. Fucking hell.

George Kruis becomes an instant pub quiz sports round answer with that kick.
Remind me again which team had 14 men? By the last try England weren't even trying to cover back.

I assume Le Garrec played well? He's so far ahead of anyone else in the challenge to Dupont, I'm not sure why anyone in France is even debating players like Lucu.

It was an in joke. He's so f**king quick for a backrow, he's played at centre a few times and not looked out of place.

A whole lot of garbage. Both sides are effectively scratch, so you'd say the difference is between class of player and coaching.

How is Eng scratch? Most of those players will have been part of the Eng training program and many (most?) with several caps.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:18 pm A whole lot of garbage. A lot of those who might have been involved before, like Freeman, haven't been even consistent squad selections.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:20 pmHow is Eng scratch? Rodd is the most experienced, in England terms, of the 6 front row players by some distance. A lot of those combinations will have line up alongside each other maybe a couple of times before, less for the tight five. Hence the lineout shambles.
May coming back in brings a lot of experience, but he's been out for basically the whole season and he's never played alongside Freeman or Atkinson, Cokanasiga's own injury issues mean he's not exactly familiar with the other members of the backline.
The Saints and Quins players were only in camp for a week, same as the Baabaas. It was scratch.

Whole backrow, SH (I assume Randall is deemed the incumbent now) and FH look regular to me along with May.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:27 pmA lot of those who might have been involved before, like Freeman, haven't been even consistent squad selections.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:20 pmHow is Eng scratch? The baabaas playing with 14 for most of the match probably helped them as well. Less confusingsockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:18 pm A whole lot of garbage. Both sides are effectively scratch, so you'd say the difference is between class of player and coaching.

Chick, Curry and Underhill was the starting back row. Chick definitely isn't regular and Underhill's injuries have kept him away for a while to the point where I'm not sure you can call him regular anymore. From the bench Lawes obviously is a regular, but Willis was fringe even before losing a year to injury.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:30 pmWhole backrow, SH (I assume Randall is deemed the incumbent now) and FH look regular to me along with May.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:27 pmA lot of those who might have been involved before, like Freeman, haven't been even consistent squad selections.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:20 pm

A simpleton might observe the number of caps is a poor indices to consider. What you'd be much keener to know is how many times the players have played alongside each other.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:20 pmHow is Eng scratch? For whatever reason broadcasters give scant attention to what's a much better stat, and one I believe that correlates much better to results, but that could have been proved false since I last saw any analysis this (and that would be a number of seasons back)
Come on. It’s ridiculous to try and equate the 2 teams, one of them has been on the piss for a week for a start.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:47 pmA simpleton might observe the number of caps is a poor indices to consider. Anyway, I did think there were a few decent performances. Smith was good, May looked pretty sharp and less stupid, the 15 looked like a decent player and I liked the 8 - never seen him before

Had the Baabaas been on the piss? Seems like Galthie and Edwards decided to see how well their fringe guys go rather than everyone in to have a knees up. Not sure the baabaas concept should be national coach picks national team players he's had in wider squads and on a few occasions (Ollivon, Cretin, Gros, Penaud, Macalou) actually played in big games. Doesn't sit right with me.Slick wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:50 pmCome on. Question for English fans, what do you get out of an uncapped out of test window barbarians game? Player development? HQ is half full so can't be the cash?

Definitely not. Each time it's played there are players who will only ever play in this game or a similarly meaningless fixture (USA and Canada tests last year) and some who've played in it to go on and represent other nations. It's by no means a stepping stone into becoming a full international.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:58 pmHad the Baabaas been on the piss? Them being on the piss was referenced a few times during the game. That’s all I have to go on but Flats seemed to be saying he was with them for a good bit of it.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:58 pmHad the Baabaas been on the piss? Re your other point, totally agree about the baabaas concept, shouldn’t be gamed like that.
Finally, just realised this is the English rugby thread so I’ll make a respectful retreat as I appreciate some of my posts are a bit pisstaky

Pfffft. Galthie has a whole Summer tour and the AIs to test out players. I didn't see the game but from what I've read, it was played in exactly the style one would hope from a Baabaas team.I like neeps wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:58 pm

What was the price for tickets at Twickers? Usual rip off I expect at a time when inflation is mental and interest rates on the rise? Although I accept such things probably don't trouble most Eng rugby fans so maybe it's just apathy with watching Eng.

Not until the second half when the game was won. There was a lot more kicking, including penalties being used for a shot at goal, and tight play than you'd typically see from the Barbarians.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:51 pmPfffft. From a Toga comment a few pages back
Not sure how that compares to previous years for the same fixture, but that certainly looks too much for the mix of fringe players and no hopers that usually comprise the England XV in these games even without considering the current cost of living squeeze.I looked at ticket prices for the England v Barbarians match. There were only 3 tariffs I could see;
£96 adult
£72 adult
£20 child

Was out at a family thing so missed this.
Thought we may struggle a bit before hand, but that's really poor, 'England XV' or not. Wouldn't be unlike Eddie to pull something out of a hat in Oz, but this England set up feels so stale all the same.

England press release seems to suggest it will be streamed on the same U20 6N YouTube channel that streamed the 6 nations.
Streaming on Youtube I think?
The commentators nightmare.
