He is a man with options. Googling him shows he was born in England, raised in Ireland, has Dutch heritage and (presumably by now) would be NZ qualified through residency.
He wants to be really sure that the drop in performance every other time he has subbed Drummond wasn’t just a coincidence. That’s the only reason I can think of. It is paint by numbers coaching.

Are there better options?
On one hand we were close in a number of games (did we lose three by a point?) but on the other we were a golden point win against Wellington from going down. My pick is that they will give him another year.
That said, the way things are going Thorne is just as likely to pop up on the AB coaching panel with his record.

Absolutely, I will support them (and the AB’s for that matter) no matter who is coach.
