How about this for an idea, any kick that is caught uncontested then it is a scrum or even a free kick back to where it was kicked?
It really is.

Maybe if you exclude kicks from inside the 22. A clearance kick isn't necessarily meant to be contestible and you'd be robbing teams of a legitimate pressure release .
Mark from anywhere was a law until, I think, the 60s? (A hold over by AFL?) Must have slowed the game down a lot, hence the change.

Good on him. Deserves to finish his career playing for a team that will be in the mix challenging for silverware.

Never mind

Edit - and now they go and show that the Brown try shouldn't have stood. Frustrating.
Yeah, heard about that. Mind you, we ended up losing thanks to a properly obscene decision to just let Irish pile in from the side after Morris pulled off a brilliant catch on a kick chase, so I'm pretty bitter about the last score myself (and Lang getting twatted in the head). Definitely can't claim we deserved to win or that it was some mockery of refereeing or anything, though.

Quins were pretty bad as a team, some good individual displays but some soft shite and again a heap of brainless penalties. Frustrating.

Don't deserve to win game if you concede a pen at every scrum really.

Champions Cup and Challenge Cup postponed! Reckon they should knock it on the head this year and concentrate on trying to finish the respective league comps
European rugby organisers have confirmed that the Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cups have been temporarily suspended.
It comes after the French government decreed its clubs should not play in the competitions this month.
As a result, European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) says it had "no choice" but to postpone all matches scheduled for the weekends of 16 and 23 January.
However, EPCR aims to resume the tournaments "as soon as practicable".
Tournament chiefs hope two rounds of Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup pool games on the weekends of 15-17 and 22-24 can go ahead at a later date as authorities deal with the impact of a new strain of Covid-19.

Not a surprise at all. Hoping they bring forward a few GP games to fill the void and potentially keep a little wiggle room later in the season.

Two week circuit break announced, with GP games not being brought forward for player welfare etc.

Can understand it I guess, but a bit crap for LI as we'll have played 1 game in 5 weeks. Think I just selfishly want something to watch as having rugby on has made this lockdown a little more bearable.

They're saying the fixtures are delayed though, not cancelled, so surely you're just lengthening the season if you don't play other games now?

Saracens still dominating the Premiership even without being in it!

Quins, Leicester and Sale all with ex-Saracens Head coaches. How many loan players out there - 10 maybe?

Good year to miss though to be fair!

Another Saracens scrum half jumps. Always thought he was more then useful!
Bristol Bears have signed English scrum half Tom Whiteley from Saracens ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club.
Whiteley has made 49 appearances for former Premiership champions Saracens, scoring 91 points.
During his time at the club he captained Saracens Storm, the club's second team, to the 2018/19 Premiership Rugby Shield title as well as well the Premiership Rugby Cup final in the same season and has played for the highly successful outfit in the Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup.

Someone must be leaving Bristol then. Randall and Uren have been duelling for first choice (the former seems to be edging that battle this season) with Cook firmly third.

Has Cook played this season? I'd certainly have Whiteley way ahead of him

Not that I've seen.

I'd suspect Uren might be the one to move. At 25 I doubt Whitely would be looking to come in too far down the depth chart and Uren might not be happy at apparently slipping behind Randall.

I wouldn't pay Cook to play rugby.

Two weeks for Sinkler. Misses the first 6N match
Kyle Sinckler will miss England’s opening Six Nations match against Scotland after receiving a two-week ban for failing to respect the authority of the match official.
Sinckler appeared before an online independent disciplinary panel after being cited for the incident which took place in Bristol’s Gallagher Premiership victory over Exeter on Saturday.

Sinckler contested the charge but it was upheld and he is free to play again on 9 February, making him available for the Six Nations round-two fixture against Italy at Twickenham.

“The panel found that as his actions disrespected the authority of the referee it was in breach of a core value of rugby - respect of match officials – and warranted a red card. The panel determined that in all the circumstances it was a low entry point with no relevant mitigation. The sanction is a two-week ban.”

Exciting Quins transfer news! James Lang and Glen Young off to Edinburgh Rugby at the end of the season. Makes sense as Lang is a Scotland squad player so 100% availability for Tests as opposed to the restrictions of the Premiership makes sense. I suspect Young harbours Scottish cap ambitions.

Nonsense rumour - Anthony Watson to move from Bath's injury room to ours.

I see that the RFU have agreed to a 28 man squad for the 6 Nations (France have named a 37 man squad).

Don’t know how that will affect selection, at a guess I think Eddie will divide the squad like the following:

4 props
3 hookers
4 locks
5 backrow
2 SH
2 FH
3 centres
5 back three

Tough to say, given we have centres that can play on the wing etc. I do agree with your forwards though, maybe one extra backrow at the expense of someone else.

The Rugby Paper reporting that relegation is scrubbed for this season. Apparently 5 clubs presented legal advice to PRL that they didn't fancy challenging

Can't see any alternative really. Would have got very messy legally if a club like Gloucester (who've received no 'covid points') was narrowly relegated
