Then she should have worked on it before getting into the Royal Family.Hugo wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 5:58 pmMy understanding is that the impetus behind Kate was mostly her mother who was actually originally of working class stock - from a mining family in county Durham. Her mother was incredibly ambitious and pulled herself out of the working class by marrying up, then started her own business in the late 80s which is where the family made its fortune. Her mother knew the ins and outs of the British class system and knew what it took to move up the ranks so to speak. When Kate was in a relationship with William (they met at St Andrews in the early 00s) it was like an extraordinarily long vetting process but Kate's parents fully supported her and helped her jump through all the hoops along the way. By the time they married William and "the Firm" could be entirely satisfied that he had someone who was going to be a good partner for him AND a good fit for Royal life.Openside wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 9:20 amAssfly I don’t even think that is true, Meghan had a pretty privileged upbringing too. Trips to Europe, privately educated, father had a well paid technical job in a film studio. I am not aware of how that translates to class in US but I imagine broadly similar??assfly wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 9:00 am
Fair enough, but still the opposite end of the spectrum than Megan.
Interesting that I always hear people describe Kate as classy. Even I do it, totally subconsciously.
Meghan endured no such trial and was essentially fast tracked into the royal family. She is a very attractive woman, wealthy and famous in her own right and I'm sure has many good qualities but she was not schooled in the ways of the British class system, the Royal family and such. Whilst she is I am sure a good match for Harry she just wasn't cut out for being in the Royal family itself.
Instead she attention whores herself and blames everyone else.

Fark off. Uncle was a hard on Nazi. Queen mummy was a full blown racist. Queenie was too young to know what she was being asked to do but the adults in the circle have no such excuse.Openside wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 3:27 pmIndeed, for all we know someone has just asked who wants an ice cream?...Woddy wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 2:41 pm Is that the Queen and her mother? There are plenty of people who were pressurised into giving a Nazi salute (most of them well before it became obvious what a Nutbar Hitler was)
Maybe want to consider why Churchill sent (Blunt I think) to Berlin immediately at the war's end to find and destroy all evidence of the royal's links with the nazis whilst concurrently the royals were building pyres doing the same to evidence in Britain.

The real victims here are the Aussies and Kiwis and Canadians who are tarnished by association with this horrific family. I wake up every day feeling grateful that this hideous bitch is no longer our head of state, her with her foul brood of inbred ingrates. Oh and also I'm just as grateful that we are current RWC champions. These two things really help me get through the day.

Most establishment figures flirted with fascism in the 20s and early 30s, particularly given Mussolini's seeming early successes in Italy. It looks horrendous of course because of what we know now of course. I'd differentiate that from, say, Edward who never woke up from the delusion and had to be exiled to the Caribbean during the War.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 8:48 amFark off. Besides, when it comes to leadership, South Africa is hardly the standard bearer of good governance.

The Queen is the head of the Commonwealth. The Secretary General of the Commonwealth is Patrica Scotland. The Commonwealth Secretariat is a body of the Commonwealth that runs the relationship between members. They are three different things.FalseBayFC wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 11:53 am The head of the Commonwealth secretary general is the head of the Commonwealth Secretariat. Evil or not, she still serves an important function. Just out of curiosity, why do you describe her as evil?

Her family accumulated wealth exactly the same way Jacob Zuma did. Theft and corruption. Her palaces were built by and paid for by poor people and conquest. In return those people got the square root of fuck all.assfly wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:00 pmThe Queen is the head of the Commonwealth. The Secretary General of the Commonwealth is Patrica Scotland. I see. For what it's worth, if it wasn't the British it would have been someone else. There is a clear distinction to be had between racist attitudes (which is always subject to relativism) and those with clear Nazi ideologies ranging from rooting for their fellow Kraut in-laws to actively making plans to work alongside them in the event they should win to outright attempting to assist them to win.

Although I realise that Meghan's main aim in this interview was to relaunch herself in the US, I'm guessing they were hoping for a slightly better response than this in the UK

At the same time, the Queen’s net approval rating has gone up slightly since the interview

Negative: 14% (-1)

The whole thing was aimed at US audiences with whom they need to remain high profile enough to earn a living off.Lobby wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:33 pm Although I realise that Meghan's main aim in this interview was to relaunch herself in the US, I'm guessing they were hoping for a slightly better response than this in the UK

Yeah, they forsook UK popularity for the bigger US market.tc27 wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:53 pmThe whole thing was aimed at US audiences with whom they need to remain high profile enough to earn a living off.Lobby wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:33 pm Although I realise that Meghan's main aim in this interview was to relaunch herself in the US, I'm guessing they were hoping for a slightly better response than this in the UK

I know they are always going to be able to carve out a living on their image/profile but I wonder how they are going to remain relevant? I just don't see what it is that they bring to the table that is different than what is already out there. Without Harry's royal bloodline they would be minor celebrities in LA circles, not A list superstars.
You can't divorce public opinion of the interview from the UK media coverage of the interview and issues raised. It's been an avalanche of anti-M&H / pro-Royalty pieces. Particularly as most people in the UK woke up to the coverage and opinion pieces, rather than watching it live.Lobby wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:33 pm Although I realise that Meghan's main aim in this interview was to relaunch herself in the US, I'm guessing they were hoping for a slightly better response than this in the UK

I honestly don't think they care. They've burned their bridges in the UK and know they won't get a fair hearing in the tabloids so what's the point? The money is in the US so appeal to your market (as the interview clearly did).Lobby wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 3:33 pm Although I realise that Meghan's main aim in this interview was to relaunch herself in the US, I'm guessing they were hoping for a slightly better response than this in the UK

I dare say they'll coin it for a while but all they've got to sell is being ex-Royals. No doubt there'll be a book but they can only tell their story so many times before interest wanes.JM2K6 wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 4:07 pm The Netflix stuff is megabucks so money isn't going to be a problem. Not really sure what that has to do with my reply tbh - the money's sorted, the work'll still be valid for years if that's the route they do go down.GogLais wrote: Fri Mar 12, 2021 4:40 pmI dare say they'll coin it for a while but all they've got to sell is being ex-Royals.
